Inexpensive sound deadening/insulation?

I am installing a system that used to be in my old Cadillac into my 66' Mustang. There are several hurdles with the project but the one I'm currently concerned with is sound deadening.

I was told to look into Dynamat, and its pretty expensive and I gotta think there's some sort of household insulation thats probably a good bit cheaper and does the job reasonably well (this won't be a show car or anything).

Are there cheaper solutions? One guy recommended 'Peel and Seal' from Lowe's, but I checked that out and it doesn't mention any ability to deaden sound whatsoever (not that this means it wouldn't be effective). I could be looking at the wrong item but here's the link to that: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=154032-81326-PS36&lpage=none

Any suggestions you have would be appreciated, thanks!

you have sound deadening all wrong, peel n seal will add mass to the panels thus doing the same exact thing as dynamat. closed cell foam over that will stop road noise/

The only bad thing about Peel and Seal is the adhesive and the thickness of the foil. There is a reason it is used for roofing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I made the mistake of using Peel and Seal. What I learned is that LESS of a quality product is better than 3x the coverage with Peel and Seal. Also, I found that Peel and Seal emits a horrific odor for MONTHS on hot days and doesn't stick that well. YMMV, of course.

Where could I find this closed cell foam?

Thanks for all the help (everyone) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

This thread. SadbutTrue. indeed.
There is an old saying for that: "Buy cheap, buy twice"

I dread the day when I will have to remove the Peel and Seal from the trunk of my Civic.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

There are plenty of quality brands out there that will do the job much better than P&S and will save you money over the cost of Dynamat.

Remember though, Dynamat Extreme is an awesome product.

Do a search for these words:

HUshmat

Stinger Road Kill

Raammat

CAE

Damplifier

CLD Tiles

The best value product is the one that give you the most amount of performance with the least amount of effort.

The thicker the foil and stronger the elastomeric value of the adhesive, the better the damping and the less you need to get similar results.

I would personally rather spend $100 on a quality mat and get less product, then spend $100 on crapmat and get 3 times as much.
