He has kids and is living with his parents until he can manage to get off his feet again, so I'm not scared of him doing anything to me physically. But verbally, yes. If I were to stay near him, he would mouth off constantly (no ****). Not that verbal abuse is really a problem, it's just annoying and if done right, it can really mess with the victim's head (no **** again).

BTW: You don't need a lawyer for small claims court. Honestly if his only argument is that you spliced the wire but he was there when it happened and didn't do anything to stop it I don't think he has a case. I would just tell him to go ahead and take you to court but tell him you'll file a counterclaim to collect the remaining $100 he owes you.

I don't have a choice. This is about the best financial decision. My question was whether I should go to court with him or pay him back, whichever would net me the greater return. I could care less about being "cool" by calling his bluff. He will take me to court if I do, and it would seem so far that nobody thinks that's the best option. This isn't about pride...no matter what way I go about it, I'm the bigger man. But I'm also the man with the lighter wallet.

in my honest opinion i would say let him take you to small claims court. first off about the woofer they will say it was purchased off of CL and he knew about the damage to it prior to buying it. since it was not from a dealer its sold "as is". so thats taken care of. the other half they will probably throw it out being that he sat there and was with you the whole time. make a timeline of everything you did. dont be scared cause of his record. if he touches you then his *** will get handed to him by the homies in the pen....again probably. let him take you to court, they will laugh that he wants a grand when all he spent was 200. learn the lesson from now on is the best thing to do. let him take you to court, he'll more than likely act a fool in the court and lose the case anyways. if you dont wanna do that then give him the 100 for the install and thats it. if he wants more tell him to **** off and have a nice day.

So if someone cut corners on an install that you paid for that should have been done right the first time you wouldnt want your money back? The guy has every right to want the money back for the install that was not done right.

As for the sub yeah tell him to get lost on that.

If I was standing there and SAW HIM cutting those corners I would have stopped him on the spot. This dude watched the OP splice the wire but didn't make a fuss until the install was completely done. The OP is not a professional installer therefor he is not held to the same standard. You can't take your car to joe schmo down the street and expect him to do professional work, it just doesn't work that way.
