Importance of matching amp and speakers

I'm wondering how important matching speaker normal power and amp RMS are. I have a new pioneere deck and have picked out speakers that I like and have two amps that I'm looking at. The Speakers are 60 watt normal and the amps are 40, and 60 RMS. Which amp should I buy? Is matching the power levels going to make a big difference?
