Impedance rise???

Can anyone explain this in simple english and how it affects the average system? As far as I know, if you have 2 DVC subs that each have 4 ohm coils they would represent a single 1 ohm load when paralleled all the way down. However, after seeing much talk about impedance rise, I am not sure if this load will go up:confused://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif:confused:

I have googled this, but the electrical engineering definitions aren't cutting it for me.

Thanks!!!

First thing to realize about impedance is that it's not a fixed value. The "4ohm" impedance rating is a nominal impedance......essentially it's supposed to represent the typical impedance the driver will present over it's intended bandwidth. But it's actual impedance will vary due to many factors, many as simple as frequency. Excluding every factor except the driver itself; at resonance the impedance for that "4ohm" driver may be 20 ohm or higher. At others it will actually be slightly lower than 4ohm. That's before we include variables such as impedance rise due to heat, enclosure, etc.

The moral of the story is that a "4ohm" driver or a "1ohm" final load isn't really that impedance all the time. We call it that to make our lives easier as it will vary based on frequency alone. Then after we include factors not considered in that "nominal rating" (heat, enclosure, etc) we feel like our head is going to explode //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif For a daily beater system, as was mentioned, it's really nothing to worry about. It will happen, nothing you can really do about it and it's pretty difficult to attempt to predict accurately due to all of the variables.

Thanks for all the replies guys!!! I can now sleep like mokedaddy said, LOL:crazy:

Squeak9798, you hit the nail on the head, I did feel like my head was going to explode because I kept finding more things that could affect and thought there was no way it could be that in depth, guess i was wrong. Oh well, on to my daily driver system:D
