Already built box and dont wanna change anything, but for future reference what does the free air resonance of a subwoofer (or two) have on an enclosures tuning output performance ? for example i tuned my box to 31 hz but the subs im getting have an fs of 35 hz what happens acoustically when youre tuning is lower than the subs fs? also have heard to never tune box lower than the fs of your sub but i dont believe that because 8's are usually very high in 30's to 40's and ive seen some 8's get down to 26 hz in a t-line. SORRY FOR THE LONG ROUND ABOUT question but i cant find an answer

Technically you can tune to whatever frequency you want. Fs is mostly only important with t-lines. As far as your questions regarding the acoustics of a box tuned at a certain frequency vs. Fs, I'm not 100% sure, but I would think a sub would be louder at the tuning frequency of the box if tuned close to the Fs, but, I don't know, because I would also think that the second you throw it in a box, the Fs changes, the resonant frequency of the sub in the box will be different from the resonant frequency of the sub in free-air.

Thats what I was thinking, you have introduced it to a new enviroment at that point and create pressure this is why i dont think there is a definitive answer.....

Yeah, I'd like to hear what keep_hope_alive has to say about it.

Enclosures manipulate impedance.

A sub's impedance is highest at Fs (in free air). A sub/box impedance is *lowest* at tuning.

You have to take both into account to generate the response you're looking for.
