So I finally installed some audio stuff into my '05 Mazda 3 5-door. I'm doing my audio projects in stages because I can't afford to buy the entire system at once, and this way I can add stuff as I save up money.
I installed a 4 gauge wiring kit, with a 60 amp fuse at the battery, a line out converter to the stock radio, a Memphis Audio 16MCD-250 amp under the passenger seat on a custom bracket so that the underseat vent still works like it should, and an Image Dynamics IDQ10v2-D4 subwoofer in a custom 0.55 cubic foot box.
I was really surprised when I turned on the radio for the first time, the sub was so **** loud. It's no SPL hero but it is pretty loud for a SQ sub getting only 250 watts. I didn't want a subwoofer that you can hear a block away, I just wanted a sub for daily enjoyment with tight clean bass, and this subwoofer delivers. It really lives up to the internet hype. It's louder than the Kenwood W3005 12-inch sub powered by a PPI 300W amp that I had in my last car. And the bass is really good sounding, it's not muddy at all. I put in a Sublime CD and was amazed with the clarity of the bass. You can't hear where the bass is coming from because it blends in so well with the (stock) speakers. I can't wait to change the stock speakers and install a nice SQ amp for them.
Anyway here are some pics of my setup so far:
