ok im not no way new to this but this has me stumped , pair of 12" zv3 d1 's wired correctly to 1 ohm checked twice today! has bass at lower levels but when i turn up the subs are moving like they should but the bass goes away WTF.. running taramps hd8k check ohms at box terminals show 1.4 ohm amp running at 13.9 volt at full tilt any suggestions ? i did just get the amp back from service if subs where wired wrong wouldnt it show a bastard ohm load the subs and box been used over 3 yrs with no issues , i also just done recones could i have done something wrong positive and negative are different from one side to the other on subs im lost

Time to pull subs out of the enclosure and inspect them, what Id do and DO NOT PUT ANY MORE POWER ON THEM.till you find out if the subs are ok.Check with DMM see if coils read within limitations, and dont do like most people and leave subs in the enclosure and read from the box terminals.take each sub out and inspect them and test with DMM.If they are fine, then on to the amp investigation

ok ill have to pull subs so ill check the ohm at each coil , i was going to hook up 1 sub and try then i guess i can then narrow this down

Yes I'm with you also after researching, it just ***** pulling these heavy *** subs out of the box , but they're not doing me any good now..lol

Imagine mounting 90+lb 18s to a vertical wall @_@

I second the 9 volt battery test or just wire one out of phase and play free air. I can definitely hear the difference free aired when one sub is out of phase and when subs are in phase. What you describe is a classic out of phase case

ok pulled subs hooked both up separately one hits like it should the other one hooked up by itself moves but no bass , check the ohm load at each coil 1 coil checked 1.8ohm the other 1.1ohm , but when coils are wired together the ohm load jumps to 2.5 ohms regardless on how the sub is wired coil to coil??

DVC1 ohm subs should read any where from 1.0-approx 1.5/may.6. I think you have a bad sub on your hands/om the 1.8 sub..Coil look blackened or more discolored than the other sub and smell a bit burnt??

Oh hell reading this again..ya..subs got bad coil brother. time to rebuild or replace sub man

ok i guess that what i was leaning to also after checking the ohm load when wired both coils wired i couldnt get nothing less then a 2.5 ohm argghh ok i guess ill order a recone kit

thanks for the help

Its always best to pull the sub and check the over all condition of it rather than let it sit in the enclosure and try several different methods. Its the most positive way to make certain without guessing and spending a lot more time.I know it blows due to weight and other conditions, but it is best to do.I hope that you get it fixed and back up and running. Best of luck man
