I'm looking for a SQL system

1 24" would eat 2 18s just because of the surface area. dont worry about looks when u drive a minivan...... 1 sub saves u money and vehicle weight
not quite

cone area of 2 18s = 508.94

cone area of 1 24" = 452.16

Its just like comparing 2 12s vs 1 15. Almost the same but not really, saves on a lot of money and weight though.

i just wanna make sure before i start buying stuff but with a ported box i would still be able to get a nice hit with metal
Honestly, with that much cone area, your gonna get a nice hit with metal regardless... unless the box is really oversized tuned to 28 hz and under or something.

a good tuning point for you should be around 35-38hz with a 11-12 cubic foot box if EDM, dubstep, metal and rock are your priorities. If your hip hop library is quite large, go with 30-33hz

33-34 is a good medium most of the times. leaves things relatively flat but that depends on how well the driver models in box designing software.

U got me jeff...... I was thinking 2 12"s vs 1 18" since the 18" has an extra 6 inches in diameter like the 24" has an extra 6 inches...

Yup 1 21 is about 2 15's and 1 24 is almost 2 18's, not quite though. a 21 is very close to a pair of 15's though. Regardless, both are good bang for your buck compared to mulitple subwoofers.
