I'm looking for a specific type of sound...

Just a foreword: I've never had an aftermarket comp set, and the friends of mine that have upgraded, stop at HU powered coaxs. So I basically have absolutely NO experience with them.

With that behind me, I have a question. I'm in the market for a set of comps, with good midbass and full sounding tweets. I listen to alot of rock and metal, so a mid that can accurately reproduce double bass or the "kick drum" sound is quite desired. As for product I've read about, I'm quite impressed with the Premier TS-C720PRS set as every review I've seen says they're excellent for the money. Outside of those, I really have no idea as to what to look for. Which is why I ask, what do you guys recommend?

My budget for a set is about $250-$300, and I would buy an amp that matched whatever set I chose.

As for my HU, I'm really looking at the Alpine 9887 and buying the Imprint add-on in order to make the most of the HU and the sound produced.

Thanks for your help, and please pardon my ignorance on this subject.

no matter how much money you spend or what comps you buy.. wont help you much until your doors are properly setup.. granted good equipment does help, but remember midbass is the hardest thing to achieve in a car.... and be hard on even the best 6.5's... a dedicated 8 would be awsome but requires alot of work and cant fit into all doors

my next setup will be DIY 3 way... if i were you.. i'd look into CSS sdx7's or peerless sls 6.5's or 8's paired with CSS fr125's and find a good tweeter... only thing that sucsk you will have to run this active which would cost more money to power/setup but in the long run i think you'd be much happier

An 8 will definitely not fit into my door. The stock mounting hole is for a 5x8 speaker //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif.

As for the deadening, I was going to completely do my doors in Damplifier Pro when I install the comps, and the rest of my truck in Damplifier whenever I install my subs.

well if you think you can fit 6.5s as i said theres either the peerless 6.5 sls or the css sdx7... the sls has a pretty big magnet.. the sdx7 on the other hand.. has a deep magnet but its narrow.. 11mm xmax for a 6 is pretty nice.. and xbl^2 motor... but they're $100 a piece and 8 ohms =\

I listen to pretty much rock and metal all the time, myself, and I found myself really happy with a set of Rainbow CMX Kick components. They can be had in your budget, and sound awesome with that kind of music, especially.

Buy what sounds good to you. Granted each auto had its own sound characteristics, quality, etc. As a few have mentioned in previous posts, just because it's a big national brand doesn't necessarily make it better.

boston pro60's ftw!! I've ran quite a few brands of comps and these are just amazing compared to the rest. Super accurate and clean. You can score a set off ebay for jut under 300. They are the first set of comps that I have ran that I don't feel like something is missing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well I guess since I can't find a dealer, the PRS's are my choice as of now.
How hard is it to fit a 6.5" speaker into a 5x8 mounting hole?
Use a baffle of MDF usually the basket and magnet will narrow going back so that it will fit without cuting a new hole if it's placed on the baffle
