Never said anything of the sort. For budget I said RAAMmat. B-Quiet Ultimate is similar, so you can consider that, but IMO **** them for selling B-Quiet Extreme which is asphalt. FatMat is also asphalt. Screw that. As to eDead, I haven't seen the new stuff. I know their first version was asphalt, but they lied and said it was butyl. The next version was butyl, but they used plastic instead of aluminum foil so performance sucked - and they claimed it was better than Dynamat Xtreme. Who knows what the new stuff is and who knows how many times they expect us to put our finger in the electrical socket. One thing you can be sure of - eDead has never been good value. It's been cheap, but never good value. Did they finally get it right? No idea, but you are dreaming if you think you will get more performance for your buck than you'll get from products sold by companies who have been competent and honest.

In fact, there is still one company out there that we all know that still, to this day has absolutely no idea how their products work, and continue to claim that mass loading = vibration damping.
This same company has been mentioned at least 10 times in this thread.

Actually, IIRC Rick even said there was. The latest incarnations might not contain it, but I believe his formula did contain some.

AFAIK, he has never been able to actually get the stuff in there. I've seen a few MSDS reports over the years and asphalt was never included. I have no idea why he thought this would be a good thing, but it has caused a lot of confusion. There was also at least one batch, a few years ago, that was asphalt that he had to recall. Not good, but I'm pretty sure he took care of everyone who got some.

Anybody interested in the history of eDead can look through this. Turns out there were more versions than I remember. I especially like their early recommendation to use 3M Super 77 to hold it in place.

The word was out there. I don't think too many rolls were involved and I think everyone was taken care of - including paying to have any that was installed taken out. It was definitely a big deal and a huge mistake.

All I know is I am going with Raamat when I deaden my vehicle. I would love to go with Damplifier or Damplifier Pro, but it is way too expensive.

Then re-allocate your funds or change your budget. Most over-spend on things like subs and amps which bring back far fewer returns toward the overall improvement of the system. The avg car audio hack has his/her priorities all out of whack, thanks to slick marketing by the manufacturers and guys and gals trying to keep up with the Jones'. Most spend way too much money on amp power which is in direct opposition to the noise floor of a moving vehicle. All IMHO, of course.

This is very good advice, especially when it comes to vibration dampers. It is almost always best to use less of a better product. Target the problem, don't just slap on tons of product and hope for improvement. The idea that price/ft² is an important metric is the biggest fallacy in sound deadening.

If the median amount is $250, what are people actually buying? I bet a good 80% goes to CLD mat. And isn't it interesting that of that percentage, as equal of a percentage are looking to reduce "road noise."

Based on what I've been screaming for at least the past two years about getting a barrier down..... and what Ant just said in this thread about the limited application of CLD mat in a vehicle....what does this actually say about the stronghold that slick marketing and sheep-like behavior that goes on in this hobby?

For $250 you can knock down 250hz by about 25 dB or you can spend that on a sub and amp and fight the noise floor and get pissed at all the structure-born noise and rattles created by it. Those that drive well-treated factory vehicles have it made, but a lot of us don't.....the 14 posts a day about "deading", "deader", "deadner" easily proves that (in addition to a lot else.)

Rammaat is a good product, especially for the money. Rick has done a great job at promoting the material and supporting his customers.

I guess it comes down to this.

Would you rather have $100 worth of Damplifier or $100 worth of Rammat.

$100 buys you more sq footage of Raammat, but you still end up with less product in your car.

With the wrong line of thinking it would be best to go with $100 worth of duct tape becuase you get so much sq footage for your money!
