I'm going to miss George W. Bush

It's Ok my little American friends, no need to fret.

Obama is the second coming of Christ. Everything will be A-O-K from hereon.

But, if everything falls in on you, you can be rest assured that your friendly Canadian neighbours will come in to save the day and take over your country..

i'm not. i'm quite familiar with it. i was simply stating that the stimulus, if passed, will release funds to people right now. i never said people would seriously be getting their money back. do we ever? shoot, if we did, i'd be pretty stoked right now considering the amount of money i had to pay in taxes last year! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif
It's very expensive to do such a stimulus. I like the idea of how he is doing it (not that he's doing it, but the mechanisms) in changing withholding rules. It is essentially free. The check thing, while nice, is incredibly expensive. It costs money to mail checks.

You're in an uphill fight trying to speak above an 8th grade level on this forum Flip.

Because you may see a return when you are in a similar circumstance. Better to co-operate than to defect.
Also, I don't think that abortion is a moral or religious question. It is a biological question. We have already established that killing another human being is wrong; we must now define scientifically when a baby becomes a human. There is no room for "choice".
Disagree on #1. If I know in advance there is no saftey net, would I not be more risk adverse?

Agreed on #2, 100%.

Wow...a girl that made it on the forum longer than a month....

Of course we should help some people out...but just enough to get by. If people where forthright, subsidy programs would work. But they aren't...so we need too many lines of accountants to check the efficacy of the programs.
yes, notice how my tone has changed throughout the time i've been here. i started out with the whole nice facade. now my true colors are coming through. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

you are absolutely right on this. i can't emphasize this problem enough. it's one of many, as a taxpayer, that frustrates me to no end. we don't have enough regulation as it is now. here comes a blanket statement that of course can be proven false: people with nothing get everything. this is not true for all situations, but it certainly makes people wonder if it's worthwhile to even try when the government provides such nice handouts.

It is impossible to predict exactly what will happen with the dollar. Contraction of the money supply and a rapid increase in interest rates once the economy begins to recover may minimize effects.
Timing that will either be luck or genius...unfortunately, the US is in short supply of both lately.

They also get more than they bargain for. Consider this:

When on welfare, you are placing a ceiling on earning potential. You cannot (legally) earn more than your distribution. Furthermore, you are a slave to the government....you must live where they tell you to live, buy what they tell you to buy (see WIC) Whereas, me a free person, can make a billion bucks in salary, buy what I want (even drugs if I am rich enough...I can pay the attorney's fees), etc.

Given the opportunity, I wouldn't make the trade. Just like when whites complain about the benefits that blacks get. Sure, they get affirmative action...but I wouldn't want to trade places.

personally, i feel that a baby becomes a human when it does not need the mother to survive. i don't mean that in the sense that once it's old enough to feed itself, etc. i mean that in the sense that it can breathe on its own, when its heartbeat is sustained on its own.

the one thing that brings morality (and not religion) into the picture is the woman's choice. as a woman, i think there are certain situations in which you should be able to abort the baby (i.e. ****, risk of death to baby, risk of death to mother) and situations in which you should not (i.e. irresponsibility). however, this is impossible to set laws for, so i have to side with a woman's right to choose.

I agree completely....just posing the argument that it's very hard to predict where we'll be economically in a year, much less try to predict the long-term damage to the dollar.

edit: Rules for abortions would be just as they are for killing now: when the child presents significant risks to the safety of the mother, then the abortion would be granted. **** could be acceptable on the basis of compassion.

no kidding. perhaps we should all spend less time predicting and more time doing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I do lots already. I work hard, make a good wage, and give to those who need it most. I need my time to waste predicting, postulating, and probing...it's my release. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
