I'm getting so pissed over this ****ing shit

nah it's a racing/parts shop out by the 696/i-96 intersection called monkey wrench racing. they specialize in celica and the 2zz engine and they sell used engines

AFAIK blown head gaskets are caused by overheating, they don't cause it. Either way it wasn't overheating, that's absolutely for sure. The temp gauge was functioning properly, plus I know the shop owner extremely well and I know it was done correctly and it was even checked by another shop with very competent mechanics.

The engine is completely blown at this point I believe,. Probably due to the fact that coolant doesn't lubricate very well (ie it's not the blown head gasket that caused it to blow directly, it was the coolant in the oil)
I'm no mechanic but i do believe there are other causes. Not to mention the fact that it doesn't take much for an engine to overheat after all the coolant has been shot through the exhaust due to a blown head gasket.

It depends on where the head gasket blows.

In his case it sounds like it blew internally, between a water jacket and one of the cylinders.. Which will cause water to get into the oil, which usually results in a spun bearing..

I'd pull the engine and see what bearing(s) it spun..

Usually when a being spins, it scews up whatever else its touching (the mating surfaces.)

So if its a rod bearing, it probably took out the rod and damaged the crank. So you can either replace the crank or have it turned, then replace the rod.

If its a main bearing it probably damaged the crank and the block/mains. You can have the block/mains aligned honed/bored, the crank will have to be cut or replaced.

If its a cam bearing it probably damaged the head and the possibly the cam. You can have the head aligned honed/bored and replace the cam if nessacry.

If you replace one bearing, just go ahead and replace them all (rod/main/cam.)

The head needs to be check for cracks and the mating surfaced its to be checked.

If you like the car and plan on keeping it for a long time, I'd do a full rebuild. Since your not doing the work and labor is expensive, I'd do it right the first time..

Sometimes you get lucky and it doesnt scare up the mating surface and everything will still be in spec so you can replace JUST the bearings, but it sounds like you drove it after it started knocking so theres probably going to be some machine work in your near future...

01 celica gt-s

And it's not a chicks car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif
of course not, its a broken car

to top it off, if you plan on getting into creating your "dream" 6spd car you dont perform a half *** build. you buy an engine, have it rebuilt to your liking, run through the *****, and then put it together. any other way is half *** and prone to problems from day one. good way for you to learn this lesson, been there done that.

Lesson to be learned: Buy a working car?.... Especially one with an engine...
Well I test drove the car when it had it's engine and it was great. Thankfully the engine died before I ended up buying it. So I figure buy the car for cheap and get an engine in myself and it'd be a great deal. It still is even after what I've spent for it (a nice car with an engine w/ 38k miles and a new clutch for around $6500). It's just that I happened to get an engine with a blown head gasket. It doesn't mean every engine someone buys is shit.

but it does mean that the one you bought is shit which makes you look like shit for buying two shitty items and then investing shit in it so that all you wound up with is a piece of shit car.

Like I said, I would tear down the engine and see whats - what...

My buddy had a 6 speed celica, it wasnt that impressive..

But if you like it, then hey, thats all that matters...

You already have alot of money into the car, I say you rebuild the current motor (if rebuildable) and continue on...

The car isn't a piece of shit. At 112k needing a new starter and clutch is (relatively) normal. I could have ran on the clutch but since it was out anyway I thought it best to get a new one. The ***** issue was pilot error. A bolt was over torqued and it broke off. The original engine died because the owner put regular in it (don't contest me on this fact, regular fuels causes detonation in these engines..)

Either way I think you're taking this too personally...calm down.

my CRX has over 200,000 miles on the original drivetrain...including clutch....the AC works fine and I still drive it 3-5 hours to shows sometimes...so everything wore out at 112K is pretty bad //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Well I went to the place to talk to them personally with a couple other guys and it sounds like they're giving in and being open to accepting responsibility and exchanging the ruined engine for a new one. We weren't able to talk to the owner since he was out of town but he should be contacted soon (if he hasn't yet) about it.

Either way the car is back at my shop and they're going to tear down the engine and find out for sure.
