If you owned your own shop?

phoenix gold, memphis, mmats, jbl, mb quart, pioneer-headunits mainly, alpine, infinity, boston acoustics. you can never go wrong with jl either no matter what anyone says.

You can "go wrong" with any brand if your customer base wont purchase it.

Its not that I wouldn't want to carry them, there is other factors involved for example, there is a competing shop in town that carrys Rockford, Alpine, Pioneer and Clarion so i obviously can't carry that and some manufacturers have minimum sales requirments to carry their product. Right now we sell Kenwood, JVC and for an economy brand Legacy/Pyamid/Pyle.

Personnally I would love to have names like RE, Adire, ED, Sound Splinter, JL, MTX, Kicker, Eclipse (drool..).

I don't own the store, I am in charge of the car audio department and I can make recommendations on lineups to carry so long as its "dooable". The population here is only 14000 so deep pocket customers are far and few between, not to mention the bad street reputation we have because of the last guy they had in charge of car audio (fired).

If I had my way I would carry

RE, Eclipse, MTX, Kenwood for subs and amps (The new Kenwood stuff performs well at a killer price)

oops! customer gotta go..

i wouldnt mix to many compairable lines that is stupid. also will end up more than likely getting you cut off from one or the other down the road. if you sell 6 woofers a month i wouldnt call you much of a dealer and you would be hurting yourself somewhere else. i would do 1 entry level 2 mid level and 1 highend line any more than that would be a waste. also if you are small its a very good idea to get 2-3 of those companies that will work with you rather than trying to jam a contract down your throat

Thats why we carry what we have right now. Kenwood is very supportive of small private dealers and JVC isn't too bad either, we deal directly with the manufacturer for those 2 brands, the Pyamid/Legacy/Pyle comes from a distributor which also carrys Lanzar, which I would like to have in the store but it costs the same as the Kenwood and could possibly cause conflict as you can't upsell to a product that costs exactly the same amount.

As for a 1high, 2mid, 1low lineup I would go-

Eclipse for high level (personal preference)

Kenwood, JVC for mid level (Existing account, excellent dealer support)

Pyle, Pyamid, Legacy for entry level (Decent option for those on a budget, helps show the value of the mid and high levels)

I have owned my own shops, 2 of the in the late 90's The linup I had was as follows and it worked very well sales wise. Of course all the brands were quite a bit different back then also...

Kenwood "back when they were still awsome and excelon ruled"

JVC "lower end"

Oz audio "when sq was the goal, not 160+db in a civic"

Aurasound "cannot say enough about them as you can tell from my sig"

Esx "lower end competition linup"

Us Amps "high end competition linup"

Lanzar "my cheapy linup"

Ground Zero "omg these babies were crazy for the day"

Alumapro "sucked balls back then"

Kicker "back when subs were still round"

i'd carry multiple brands from 3 ranges of price points.

carry whatever brands will get you the most sales.

*duh*

Btw, i also love how a buisness man/woman could join a forum ask a question and get his market research done for him for free :p
