If you had to choose?

Which would you choose?

If you are worried about the smallest box size and need the driver asap, get the Q. If not we hope to have the Icons back in soon.
How soon? I'm looking to have this all in my car and going by mid-July if possible. Up to 60Hz, nothing beats the Icon's output, at least nothing that I'm considering (if I graphed correctly). Right now, my Dayton is crossed at 63 with a 12dB slope or 80 with a 18dB slope, depending on the song... so really anything above my crossover point isn't going to matter in terms of output, at least with the box given by WinISD.

@Denim: What is the "optimal" enclosure size and tuning you would recommend for a 15" Icon? WinISD calculated 5.75ft^3 @ 24Hz, but I'm not sure I have that much room in my trunk... I don't really care if the box takes up my whole trunk since I won't be using the trunk during the summer. I was already planning on making a box that stretched across the full width of my trunk, then had about a foot coming straight back, then a 120 degree angle off both sides converging on the center of the trunk.

Kind of like this:

So I probably could do 5.75ft^3 with that..

If you have to be in by mid July, go Q. There are a small handful of used Q's and Icon's floating in the classified sections.

As for box size, yes the Icon when modeled in the different programs does map out larger then average (if aiming for a rail flat response), especially for the 15 (side note: part of the reason we did not move forward with the 18" version of the Icon). So for most in car installs, the optimal box sizing is a great starting point, when you factor in very little music goes down as low as movies, and with the small interior air space of most vehicles, it is difficult to reproduce the lowest of lows. To add to that, the average user with out modeling software seems to prefer a little bit of a peak at the bottom end. Hope that is clear enough to understand.

Have you considered going larger sealed for either the Q or Icon?

No I haven't even considered sealed. WinISD put all the drivers I've been considering in Vented based on their EBP and I just stuck with that since I was looking for a much better low-end and output. Not to mention, with either the Q or Icon, my PDX1.600 would be able to get more output from them in a vented enclosure.... why do you ask?

I've manipulated the box sizes and tuning frequencies to match/resemble the response of the Icon (what I'd prefer).

Blue - Fi Q 15 in 3ft^3 @ 30Hz

Red - RE SE 15 in 3.5ft^3 @ 30Hz

White- SSA Icon 15 in 5.75ft^3 @ 25Hz

Looks like the RE and Fi peak output around 40Hz, while the Icon is around 30Hz...

I'm anxious to get any of these //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Fi Q 15 is Blue... Do you guys think tuning it's response like that to be flat from 30-70Hz with the roll off how it is would work well?

The Orange graph is a 15" HO actually, which responds a lot like an Icon, just a few dB's lower. It's only $160, so compared to the Icon's $270, it's quite a toss up.

I'm pretty sure the Q is the route I'm going, but I'd like to know what you guys think about the box I've got it in (3.0ft^3 @ 30Hz) that gives it that response curve.

Thanks in advance! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
