If you had to choose?

Which would you choose?

On the SPL graph, a single HO10 obtains 84dB's at 500W.

On the same graph, two HO10's get 87.5dB's at 500W each.

So if I'm doing everything alright, any single 15" will have at least an extra 3dB's in output over two HO10's.

Does anyone else get the same results I do or think I may be doing something wrong?

Here's the SPL graph:

Blue = SE 15"

Red = Q 15"

White = Icon 15"

Pink = HO 10" (single)

In the enclosures you have modeled the Icon is louder than everything else from 70hz down. That would be my choice. I could care less what a sub does above 60hz, or so.

I voted Q in the poll, but I know you will get great results from either the Icon or the Q. As the chart shows somewhat, that the Icon does not have quite the peak output as the Q, but has a lower roll off.

This is very true. Have you modeled the Icon and gotten the same result though? I'd like to make sure the result that I got is accurate //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I wish I had the money to upgrade to a 1.1000 so I could give the Q or the Icon their RMS rated power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Hopefully being ported, it will allow me to hit some good numbers though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I can already see how much louder and lower any of these will go beyond my Dayton!

EDIT: BTW, how much of a difference is 12dB's? Is that like... a LOT louder? lol

Every 3db seems like double to the ears... so 4x louder?

I didn't get a chance to model any of these, but it looks like you've done a good job yourself.

**** the icon sure looks nice on that graph
Unfortunately, the Icon is beast in that diagram because it is in it's optimal enclosure according to WinISD. That enclosure is 5.75 ft^3 tuned to 25Hz for a single 15".

The RE only needs 2.5 ft^3 @ 22Hz for optimum, and the Q only needs 1.5 ft^3 @ 25Hz for optimum //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

So I've been reading up on some things about these subs. I've seen a few people complain about the customer service and quality of the newer RE subs. Many people saying that an Fi equivalent can be had for the same cost and is a much better sub. Is it true that all of the RE subs are made in China? And if so, are the Fi's built in the US?

I don't mind paying an extra $70 for an Icon or Q over the SE if it's really going to be worth it. In my graphs, however, the SE performs above the Q throughout the entire frequency spectrum. I also just graphed the HO 15, which has a roll off pattern very similar to the Icon, just about 2.5dB's lower throughout the spectrum.

Also, when and why do subs need reconing? Is it just because of excessive abuse? I would hope that feeding a 600wRMS rated sub 600wRMS at the most would not result in a blown subwoofer requiring a recone... Just curious.

Thanks for all your help guys.

If you had to choose between an RE SE15, RE SX15 and an Fi Q15, which would you go for?
I can get the Q for $280, the SX for $270, and the SE for $200. Only limitation is how much power I can feed it. I only have a PDX1.600 right now, so only ~650wRMS. The SE is rated at 600RMS, so that would be perfect, but the Q and SX are rated at 1000RMS.

I'd like to go ported if possible, and I'd like to know what the box dimensions/tuning would be for either sub?

Thanks in advance guys, I know this is a topic that has been discussed, but my requirements are a bit different than others.
Whats the name of that color on your ride, LOOKS CLEAN. Is it a factory color or custom

Haha, thanks man, that pic is right after a fresh wash and 3 coats of wax //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. The color is factory, but it's a rare color for the tC, discontinued after my year (only the second year it was out). It's called Black Cherry Pearl.

i believe 10db is twice as loud
Someone (or some people) interpreted test data and made a generalization that a 10 dB change in level was twice (or half) the volume and many texts compound this useless and deceiving assertion. In practice the 6 dB change for full fidelity music represents twice (or half) the volume much better than the confusing 10 dB. It has good scientific basis in that twice the pressure is an increase in 6 dB
So 6.
