If you could walk into a car audio store..

My main question is are you opening a store???

Only things I really look for are great products, great prices, With amazing cusstomer/Tech support. Most everyone looks for this I guess. As for products a large variety of items is key. Sucks to walk in to a shop and there only authorised fosgate holders. So they mostlly carry fosgate. Subs, Coaxils, Comps, EQ's, HU's, Amps. All setup and working on display is a plus. You will tend to sell more if the customer can get some hands on.

Store looks? Just a clean well lit shop I guess.

Adire

Kicker

RE

Alpine

JL

Orion

Precision Power Instruments

Millions of oddball connectors/goobers/switches/hooks/wires for installs

Huge rolls of fatass cable/speaker wire

Custom box building shop in back

Lots of loose subs sittting out everywhere for touchy feely

GOOD SOUNDING DISPLAYS

Nothing worse than demo'ing gear in a horrible sounding display board, or where only half the products on the board actually power up.

For gear, I'd like to see more shops with higher end gear. Unfortunately, this doesn't sell. The shop in my area that does the best carries the lowest end products, because that's what sells. Pyramid, Legacy, Pyle, Lanzar, Audiobahn (yes, Abahn is low end //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif ), MA Audio, etc etc. General consumers don't want to drop a lot of money on a system....they want something that plays for as little $$ as possible.

Some higher end brands to carry (that I wish where carried around here) would be Resonant Engineering, Adire Audio, Tru Technology, McIntosh, Linear Power, Image Dynamics, DLS, Rainbow/Arc Audio, Eclipse, Morel, etc etc.....

Actually, I already work in sales for A&B Sound in Canada.

Right now, we carry Clarion, JL, Alpine, Sony, Kenwood and Eclipse.

We do a lot of custom work, and we do get a lot of recognition from it.

This is the Escalade we put together for the MTX builders contest:

http://www.mtx.com/bigbadboldinstall/winners.cfm

I'm trying to come up with suggestions for adding depth to the product we carry. I would also like to see us diversify. The store we run is fairly unique, and I would like to make it even more unique. Although I'm quite junior on the ladder, I'm going to put together a list and see what happens at the top.

Keep the suggestions coming. I'm appreciating them all.

If you could pick up Diamond, PPI, Fosgate, Orion, Soundstream. Even an online companys product. That would give a much larger buying cushion. And give customers more options. Possibly bring you guys a little more money.

Knowledgable staff, and an install bay you can watch.

Bulk supplies; (wire, connectors, box-coverings)

Car Audio Workshops;

A wider array of products - who needs 144 Punch P1s;

Carry more products, instead of more product.

squeak, you would have loved the shop i found yesterday, it was amazing

they carried Zapco, JL, Morel, Focal, Eclipse, Boston, Diamond and a couple high end Clarion and Pioneer HUs

Matt, save your time and efforts for someone who will do something with it. I worked for A&B for years and held the sales record for the car audio section for a real long time. All of my recommendations were never listened to as the corporate goal was totally different that what the sales floor was telling them. Next being in bankruptcy protection is going to make it difficult if not impossible for A&B to change direction and pursue what you are hoping that they should do. This they admitted in a televised statement. Not to knock your employer Matt, but unfortunately you are not an employee, you are a number and one day when your number is up you may realize this. If you play by their rules and do not try to force yours you'll get along fine with your employer but when you suggest ways for your employer to do this and this when you are so junior on the ladder, your number can come up hella quick. Keep yourself employed and learn what to do and not to do while you are there. I'm sure it's a great place to work and earn a living but there are always places that are more exciting as well. Continue to do the good work with the tools that you have, if A&B makes it through their bankrupty protection, maybe things will be different for all and your input may then be welcomed.
