sometimes you guys make me giggle...
and you make me laugh so hard that I pee my pants like a kindergartener who hasn't been potty trained.
the 10w7 has been shown to have almost a perfectly flat responce and it's reasonably loud compared even to more SPL oriented subs...
I would agree with that, however, I'm pretty sure every Freq. response graph you've seen of the driver has been in an anechoic chamber, quite a bit different than in-car response.
i don't understand why you some of you guys' opinions are so credible when half of you say you prefer the w6 to the w7 because the w7 sounds hollow...
Because the majority of people actually DO prefer a bit of distortion in their driver's it gives it that "full" sound. This is of course because there aren't many drivers out there that are like the w7 in terms of distortion so we feel that this is the proper sound, hell even my XXX had a bit of that warm sound to it.
FYI that means you prefer more distortion because in a reasonably well built enclosure the W7 has close to NONE...
read above...
while i preffer the w6 also, it's mostly because of price and the fact that the w6 is just good enough for me...
And your decision on the w6 can be applied to most everyone that DOESN'T have a JL driver, because the other options were good enough for them.
oh yeah i think the efficiency of an amp isn't everything... while you might not be able to hear a huge difference the slash amps AGAIN have almost NO distortion... that translates into both better sound quality and speaker life and performance
It's not? Dimming lights caused by inefficient high powered amps is a problem to me, but thats just my opinion. And for reference, my LP 2.2HV bridged is about 800-1000 watts rms, unregulated, my lights don't dim. Stock 90amp alt and battery. And believe me, I'll take my 2.2 over any slash amp on the market.
again if you are looking for a huge system for SPL then the JL's efficiency might be a problem, but i think 1000 watts is usually gunna be plenty for most daily systems
I agree with this, but IF a similar (non-jl) amp was designed properly there shouldn't be an audible sound difference (I don't want to open that can I'm just saying), especially at such low frequencies, I'd take an amp that produces say 100 watts less, and is more efficient. Personally when we're talking about that range of power, I don't think the human ear could detect a minimal decrease like that, I could be wrong but I doubt it.
I don't care about status either, if I did, I wouldn't be running home audio speakers for my front stage, and I definitely wouldn't be using LP amps, that look like they were left over from 1986.
Don't get me wrong, I do feel that JL makes great quality products, but to me none of them fit my needs at my price point. If I had more money than I knew what to do with, I would consider it, but I like being different I like using things not many people use, it makes me sleep easier at night. Though, which really isn't hard with my friends, when they look at my cd player, they're like "whats Premier mean?" FYI the 880 says Premier on the faceplate.
