If JL is good but overpriced, at what price point should they be?

How did you determine who is high end and who is not? Is it the price they charge? It seems to me that people pick a lot of high dollar products that they've never used and name drop it like it's hot. What makes anything made by the companies you listed better than products made by JL Audio?
I just don't like their amps... I have tried them.

tried zapco amps too... no audible difference to my ears...

Just that if I am gonna pay that much, I rather a zapco amp then a JL...

yeah because a box doesn't affect the response of a speaker at all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
you're just another jl fan boy
How am I just snother JL fan boy? Because I like their products? When have I anointed them the best of the best and none better? They are far from it. There are brands out there as good or better for near the same price. I've said this many times.

I don't like JL anymore than a person may like DD, or ID, or MB quart. They are good products and I prefer them. Doesn't mean other brands aren't any good.

Its a very simple market penetration strategy....

JL goes after there target market.... which is NOT (in general) us guys here on this board who like to buy used stuff... or factory direct stuff (Fi, Si, Rd, forum boner.... etc....)

penetration strategy is the act of selling more to there EXISTING customers, hence the home subwoofers that just came out... "when I was 18 I had JL subs in my car and they were the shiz... nom I'm 30 and have a $500,000 house.. I'm gonna buy a JL home sub" perfect abililty to change with there market...

sometimes you guys make me giggle...

first of all i don't reallt get what the discrepancy is...

the 10w7 has been shown to have almost a perfectly flat responce and it's reasonably loud compared even to more SPL oriented subs...

i don't understand why you some of you guys' opinions are so credible when half of you say you prefer the w6 to the w7 because the w7 sounds hollow...

FYI that means you prefer more distortion because in a reasonably well built enclosure the W7 has close to NONE...

while i preffer the w6 also, it's mostly because of price and the fact that the w6 is just good enough for me...

and i'm tired of the JL fanboy stereotype... give me something that sucks about a w7 besides price...

oh yeah i think the efficiency of an amp isn't everything... while you might not be able to hear a huge difference the slash amps AGAIN have almost NO distortion... that translates into both better sound quality and speaker life and performance

again if you are looking for a huge system for SPL then the JL's efficiency might be a problem, but i think 1000 watts is usually gunna be plenty for most daily systems

and you make me laugh so hard that I pee my pants like a kindergartener who hasn't been potty trained.

I would agree with that, however, I'm pretty sure every Freq. response graph you've seen of the driver has been in an anechoic chamber, quite a bit different than in-car response.

Because the majority of people actually DO prefer a bit of distortion in their driver's it gives it that "full" sound. This is of course because there aren't many drivers out there that are like the w7 in terms of distortion so we feel that this is the proper sound, hell even my XXX had a bit of that warm sound to it.

FYI that means you prefer more distortion because in a reasonably well built enclosure the W7 has close to NONE...
read above...

while i preffer the w6 also, it's mostly because of price and the fact that the w6 is just good enough for me...
And your decision on the w6 can be applied to most everyone that DOESN'T have a JL driver, because the other options were good enough for them.

It's not? Dimming lights caused by inefficient high powered amps is a problem to me, but thats just my opinion. And for reference, my LP 2.2HV bridged is about 800-1000 watts rms, unregulated, my lights don't dim. Stock 90amp alt and battery. And believe me, I'll take my 2.2 over any slash amp on the market.

I agree with this, but IF a similar (non-jl) amp was designed properly there shouldn't be an audible sound difference (I don't want to open that can I'm just saying), especially at such low frequencies, I'd take an amp that produces say 100 watts less, and is more efficient. Personally when we're talking about that range of power, I don't think the human ear could detect a minimal decrease like that, I could be wrong but I doubt it.

I don't care about status either, if I did, I wouldn't be running home audio speakers for my front stage, and I definitely wouldn't be using LP amps, that look like they were left over from 1986.

Don't get me wrong, I do feel that JL makes great quality products, but to me none of them fit my needs at my price point. If I had more money than I knew what to do with, I would consider it, but I like being different I like using things not many people use, it makes me sleep easier at night. Though, which really isn't hard with my friends, when they look at my cd player, they're like "whats Premier mean?" FYI the 880 says Premier on the faceplate.

So Zapco isn't overpriced? I'm confused.
That's because you don't understand the way this works.

Anything that's cheaper than JL is a better value than JL and thus should be purchased instead of JL because JL is overpriced.

Anything at the same price as JL is a higher quality product than JL, proving JL is overpriced.

And anything more expensive than JL is also a higher quality product than JL, justifying it's higher price tag.

500k in ohio!! thats a pretty nice house what the hell do you do for a living....23 here and looking for a career path lol

yeah my first subs were w3's...sounded ok.....didnt know much about tuning nor box buliding then but after about 4 months one blew and i went with planet audio and those things lasted forever......still got planet audio 10's that were probably clipped and overpowered for years and they are still working!!!!

Succinct in demonstrating their hypocrisy.

Ahh, perfect sense. Thanks! Time to go buy some Focal subs!
