If JL is good but overpriced, at what price point should they be?

also.... anyone ever tried to burn a jl coil?
i can tell yo one thing it's DAAAMN hard to do...

they can hit mechanical failure with too much power but i ran a 10w6v2 at 800 watts for a long time and it ran great till i turned it up to bout 900 and the surround started cracking... but good luck burning a JL motor (SPECIALLY THE W7)
yeah i have seen a dub7 12" coil go... I laughed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

i cannot tell if you are trolling or serious.. if you are serious..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif jls coils are NOT magic. they fry the same as any others:) trust me..

If you want loud look elsewhere than JL. If you want to beat the ever loving shit out of a driver, look elsewhere than JL. If you want an accurate driver look at JL.

If $ is one of your most important deciding factors look elsewhere than JL. It's not cheap, but it really isn't expensive when you compare JL drivers to their real competition (their competition is NOT Fi or SI or any of the internet brands). Priced them against Focal Nobeliums lately? What about Dynaudio? Amps? Priced Zapco or Genesis or any actual high end amp lately? If you're calling JL overpriced you need to really look at the market. JL may be the most expensive widely available brand, but in the realm of pure, accurate reproduction of the signal fed to them, JL drivers are across the line one of the best. If you compare their price/performance (SPL is not what I'm talking about, if you haven't figured that out yet) to the actual high end brands, you'll quickly see that it is a good deal in the big picture.

But again, if your decision is based on "how loud can I get with the least amount of money" get a clue and quit calling JL overpriced because I can apply your flawed logic to plenty of items and make you look stupid.

I agree with most of what you said, but I really dont consider any of jls car audio to be highend.. I see it as more of a middle of the road company. Good company no doubt, and i like some of their products, but I dont see them as highend like a dynaudio, morel, zapco, genesis, brax, ect.. I will admit though, that the enclosure and amp design that went into their home subs(w7s in a box) looks very nice. I woulndt mind to try one out..

I wasn't saying JL should change their price (they're obviously making money at the higher price point, so why lower them), I was wondering how much the subs should be for the buyers who think they're overpriced to actually seriously consider buying JL.

Also, my first subs were the original W6s. I wanted to upgrade to the new W6v2s or the W7 when the original W6's surround started deterirating. But I couldn't afford them. And on that faithful day, I went on the internet and discovered Adire, Stereo Integrity, Image Dynamics and so on (Fi didn't exist yet). Funny story, because I considered a W6v2, but thought it was to expensive, and got a Adire Brahma for less then the W6v2, and it ended up being blown on arival. One thing led to another and I have a SI Mag, which ended up costing more then the W6v2. But I'm happy.

For me, I would seriously consider buying JL if it was a little less expensive, but at their current price point, I can't consider them (Exactly like that Ferrari that was brought up, I would consider buy a Ferrari if it was less expensive-by a lot, but at it's current price point, I can't consider driving in a Ferrari at all)

So, I'm not saying JL should lower their price.

Zapco is not on the level of Morel. They are awesome, higher end than JL, but its not there. I'd put TRU Technology there before Zapco.

i blew 6 JL W3 10s in a matter of 1 year, yeah they blow:p:

that fancy magnet boot they had was near melting when we removed the last W3. that was running it off a JL 500/1 not clipping

But with all that said, I will say this: My first real system included a pair of JL 12W0's. I thought they were absolutely the cat's meow. I was so proud of them. Then, I put a canoe through one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif So, I replaced them with a pair of Kicker Comps. I hated to admit it to myself, but the Kickers sounded just as good, and were definitely louder. Wait, wait, wait... how can this be?! Subs that cost half as much, yet sound just as good and get louder? That's when I really realized that even though JL is nice, they're not quite all they're cracked up to be. This goes for all my friends who had W3's and W6's, and they thought they were the end-all to car audio, and then they heard my XXX. Those moments were priceless. "How much did you pay for your W6's?" "$400 apiece, and $1000 for the 1000/1" "I spent $250 on my XXX and another $250 on my X1.2000.1D" "WTF?!"
I don't know what Kicker's you were listening to or whether you were drunk....but I've never heard a Kicker sub that could hold JL's jock in the SQ dept, and plenty of by boys sport Kicker. Louder? Sure. Deeper? Sure. Sound as good...hell no.

Would love to see the curve on both side by side. No way Kicker is as flat throughout the volume spectrum as JL.

yeah because a box doesn't affect the response of a speaker at all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

you're just another jl fan boy

How did you determine who is high end and who is not? Is it the price they charge? It seems to me that people pick a lot of high dollar products that they've never used and name drop it like it's hot. What makes anything made by the companies you listed better than products made by JL Audio?
