If JL is good but overpriced, at what price point should they be?

I guess it depends on which of their products you're referring to. Their high end subs are very expensive, and slightly better can be had for less money. Their amps are also fairly high on price, but they are also very flexible units. Their component speaker systems actually aren't too badly priced if you buy them off the internet, and if we're not talking about the ZR's.

JL is very high-quality...

not to mention the name...

most of the time (exept on this forum) when you open up ur trunk and have W7's sittin there you are gunna have a jaw drop....

it's like a status thing and jl amps are VERY nice IMO

Jl has almost no competition in their home theater sub line, and also make some of the best marine equiptment (kicker makes some nice stuff too)

but all in all there aren't many subs that compete with the w7 in the combination of SPL and SQ, and even those that do probably aren't even close to as recognized as the W7... (99% of people probly have never heard of companies like RE, FI, or DD)

so imo for the adverage competitior, JL isn't the best choice very often...

but for the adverage street going dude who wants a LOUD system that sounds crystal and makes his friends go DAAAAAMN! jl is a great choice

and lets not forget aesthetics, jls stuff just LOOKS good too

my first sub was a jl 10w0.... still got it too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and the sealed box... too many memories, just cant let it go lol. ooh, did have a 10w3 ported and sealed.. it was really nice too.

also.... anyone ever tried to burn a jl coil?

i can tell yo one thing it's DAAAMN hard to do...

they can hit mechanical failure with too much power but i ran a 10w6v2 at 800 watts for a long time and it ran great till i turned it up to bout 900 and the surround started cracking... but good luck burning a JL motor (SPECIALLY THE W7)

here's a good JL bargain...

STEALTHBOX!!! those things cheat, i swear

my friends dad has 1 center console 10w6 in his toyota tundra and you would think its 2 mid-line 15's (it hits about like 2 12 cvx's ) in a sealed box

first off i don't post here alot but i have read tons on this site and have been in the compitition circut in db drag idbl for the better half of five or so years... so i'm not a newb here or to jl audio. with that said, i'm not a fan at all of jl. they have a great company and tons of people love there product. if i were doing an sq set up ya, i'd think jl. but the amp prices, come on now. i pay less for ia and get double the power. i would run jl if i were paid to run it, but that's me. not really trying to hate on jl, just my personal view.

Honestly the w7 is a very well designed driver. In a price no object game very few of the any new or old "forum boner" subs can really stand up to it. Klippel put the adire bramha up against it and found the w7 to be the better driver as it was dead silent all the way through it's stroke with a very flat bl curve. Distortion measurements are among the best of any car audio marketed driver as well, usuallly what is referred to as the hollow sound, as distortion tends to warm things up a bit. I think the attention to detail in manufacturing as well as the well custom designed parts has already been mentioned. Most of the fly by night internet companies rely on off the shelf designs, seriously how many tc-9 knockoffs are there out right now? With all that said, I'd never pay 500+ for any subwoofer, ever.

I blew a w3

meh... a 80lbs speaker with 6" p2p excursion has a better effect...

it's like a status thing and jl amps are VERY nice IMO
the amps would be better if they weren't so inefficient and expensive...

Jl has almost no competition in their home theater sub line, and also make some of the best marine equiptment (kicker makes some nice stuff too)
TC/AP? I know that testing a 15" dub7 to a tc-3k and a 15" lms-5400 showed that the TC/AP's were better in terms of response and output...

yeah JL is pretty well known esp when the shops that are authorized push it like drugs on the corner to kids...

so imo for the adverage competitior, JL isn't the best choice very often...
agreed
