I am in the planning phase of an upgrade to my 2008 Chevrolet Colorado stereo and would like some input.
In reading about active verses passive I am a bit confused and wondering that if I bought a new HU with 6 channels preamp out aren't you getting active crossovers coming right out of the HU? Here is the HU I am considering. Kenwood Excelon KDC-X595 CD receiver at Crutchfield Signature
Do I even need to consider an active crossover separate from this HU?
I do have a Kenwood 4 channel amp and a JL e1200 mono amp for the sub. I used these in my old car and both are approximately 5 years old.
Is there a way using the preamp out front to run my mid's (through 2 channel of the amp) &
my tweeters (through the rear channels of that same amp) actively controlling the "preamp outs" of the head unit? With this HU, can I make the rear channels filtered by a high pass filter of the head unit to run my tweeters? Channels 5 & 6 of the HU would go to the sub amp. In this configuration I wouldn't run the rear door speakers.
Currently, my truck (an extended Cab) has rear channels, and I do have tweeters in the front doors.
If my thinking is all messed up please let me know and feel free to offer suggestions. Initially, I was going to buy component set speakers with passive crossovers but while reading about an active system I though active crossovers should be a consideration.
Any thoughts?
Bryan
