I am planning on replacing the speakers I currently have in my car (pioneer), mostly because I feel I can do better than that. I have room for a pair of 5 and 1/4 and room for 5x7's, and I plan on spending anywhere from $100-200 per pair (the lower, the better). I was thinking about either going with Infinitys or JL's, but I also like Polk Audios sound, and MB Quart is tempting also.

What do you guys think I should do? If you have any suggestions on other speakers I should look into, by all means, speak up.

I'd look into a set of components, you can pick up a nice one for around 150-ish. I've heard the Alpine type-r's are nice. I've got a set of infiniti references and I'm very happy with them. Do you plan on using an amp for them or are you gonna run them off of the h/u?

if u can get your hands on them, i say go with boston acoustics, IMO they're one of the best brands out there. and i know not many people like MTX speakers, but i've got a pair of MTX 5x7's, and i love them.

Well, I was planning on running them straight from the head unit, since my POS Pioneer amp that I had for them decided to only run on one channel, but I might go with that $80 amp Jmac recommended, since that is dirt cheap for an amp. Over at one of the local stores, they are running a special on MB Quart's right now 50% off (only the lower end stuff, not the real good $1000 speakers, just like the ones that are normally in the $300 range), and I am very tempted to get those.

Anyways, I recommend you put $150 into kick panels, $80 into an amp (USX2050), and $170 into 6.5" components //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif That would achieve the best results ...

Or, if you're good with your hands and have the time and energy to make kick panels yourself, I would put $95 into the amp (USX2080), $20 into materials for kick panels, and $185-$285 into 6.5" components //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Believe me, if you do it right, you won't even want rear fill.

However, if you really, really, really want rear fill, get a 5x7 to 5.25" adaptor and put 5.25" coaxials in ...

completly agree......im also going to say go to a store like best buy(dont buy from them or anything) and listen to different componet sets and see what sounds best to your ears......myself i listened to 2 diff sets of boston accoustics; fosgate fanatic x; and the alpine type r 5.25's.....they all sounded nice but the type r's sounded best to me due to my unique listening taste.....so go listen for yourself....then decide
