If I can afford it

Those are common enough that any repair has been documented already. No need to worry about a $3k electrical repair, worry more about a transmission rebuild.
If owners of a car as uncommon as a Mark viii with more modules ect can easily diagnose problems within the community you shouldn't have any issues with a gp.
wife's last car they wanted $1200 for body control module., i unhooked battery all day she drive it no problems for 6 more months until someone totaled it.. i just got both valve cover gaskets replaced (1 was recall free) got intake gaskets, supercharger gasket and oil new thermostat and power steering pump.. i've had synthetic ***** fluid since 25k changed it twice in 10 yrs since then hopefully that'll last.. i worry about the supercharger that'll cost if it goes out..

4.0L v6
already has low compression lol

probably some vacuum setup

idk really

I'd figure it out as i go along
FMU's work better with supercharged setups. To do it right you would want standalone and with that done the motor still isnt great for boost. The only swap in my opinion that makes sense on a ranger is going with a turbocoupe setup electronics and all. When you say 4 speed im assuming you mean the auto 4 speed because I thought all rangers had a 5 speed manual. If it is auto thats a whole new set of problems since it is vacuum operated.

Why bother listening to these crazy bastards here anyway? Most of them think its fun to completely ruin a car by putting a giant system in it but then tell you its dumb to turbo it. Do what you want but I highly suggest going to another forum for information.

Ain't that the fucking truth. Pontiacs and automatic transmissions go together like peanut butter and ketchup. If I had a nickel...

Lmao, this guy. Smh...

What's your actual budget? I'm midway through turboing a couple vehicles with a whole host of issues. The 4.0 ecu being tuned with a mustang maf and upgrading the fuel delivery is pretty straight forward.... It's really not as difficult as it may seem.

You going for the the idea of a turbo or actually trying to push the motor to its ultimate death? That determines how much you will be spending and will play a factor in the longevity of the motor.

Have to think about what is going to give first and if there is any potential upgrades for the motor if you want performance

Lulz.

My neighbor just got a either '94 or '96 ext cab Ford Ranger.....to me, they're not made for racing. s10 is it's

"competiitor", if you will. Imo I wouldn't add a turbo to it. There's other things that can be done to it that's a lot cheaper than a turbo if you wanna go faster.

Do you think I should put a turbo on my ranger?
depends on what ranger youre talking about

If you can afford it you should do a diesel swapAnd any money into making it fast and you could sell it and get a used F150 lightning
but why? theyre not terribly fast and a sleeper ranger would be far better. Not to mention that a lightning would likely have the pi$$ ridden out of it.

uhhhh, wut? if youre talking about compression ratios, theres a cure for that. Atmospheric compression ratios of forced induction engines are far less than n/a engines for a reason. If youre talking about increased wear leading to failure, that is inherent in any engine that has performance mods added to it or even just driving a vehicle harder than normal for that matter. If his engine is the 4 banger that ford has used in lierally millions and millions of cars over the decades, then an engine swap is terribly cheap and easy if indeed he does blow something up, and forced induction is an incredibly tried and true way of getting more power out of smaller displacement engines.

I'm not racing

I'm just nuts

I enjoy that type of driving. Also wide variations of power, efficiency, a lot of tuning options.
