IDMaxes not that loud...

Yeah try that Memphis a .5...with the Impedance rise you might be ok. I Ran a Memphis PR for a short period of time at the shop off of a pair of 60 amp power supplies and it was fine (I wasnt pushing it hard though) Before you go out and spend money on a new amp, see if the one you have now will work at .5.

1) get another Memphis PRD1000 amp

2) get a amp thats stable @0.5ohms Parallel / Parallel

3) get a amp that does 1500+W @ 2 ohms Series / Parallel

4) worst case , use the 1ohm that you amp gives you and do a DAISY wire, its a electricians term. or do a Parallel / Parallel and hook at up to 1ohms.

5) if you dont have the money to upgrade the amp or get another amp, that 2nd IDMAX is useless, Send it my way, ill gladly take it off your hands. ill give that sub a good home.

20.1's are amazing amps, and they would give you plenty of power. also, try them ported, i heard (not in person) that the IDMax's sound pretty nice in ported boxes.

for your amp 600W rms at 2ohms. for a pair of IDmax that mean each sub only getting 300w.manufacturing data 300w to 400w is to make the sub move ,not for the sub to get loud.if you want to make the idmax get loud atleast you need to give each sub around 600w or more in order to get loud ,or just hook up 1 sub at 1ohm ,sell away your the other sub.

Yeh I've got the money to buy another amp, I just wanted to make sure it would be well worth my while to do so.

I'm not looking for SPL exclusivly, more along the lines of SQL which is why I bout the Maxes in the first place.

Thanks for the assurance that there will be a significant difference in sound level.

you have to be set on what you want. the idmax sounds good and can get loud but if you are just out to be loud thats a whole different situation. do you like the sound the idmax really puts out? is this just about volume or do you just want a wrecking ball sub stage?

Yeh i like the sound it puts out. I like quality sound. I cant stand riding with people who turn their system all the way up with their subs bottoming out and sounding like shit. I also want it loud and from what I read the IDMax puts out quality sound at a high level.

Im now in the process of finding an amp that will give me 1500W min. to run these subs. Thanks for all the replys that helped me make up my mind!

First of all.......as stated above...an IDMAX is made more for SQ than SPL. The woofer plays the frequencies differently than an L7. The L7 was made to be as loud as possible...I honestly don't like the woofers myself. I think they sound like crap. But what most people go for in a sub is the loudest thing they can get. Image Dynamics makes their cones different than a kicker. The designed it to limit resonances...the solo not so much so. Basically look at it this way......have you ever listened to a cheap woofer? Say like a kicker comp, or jl w0 or mtx thunder 4500? You will notice that they play the upper frequencies much louder. And those frequencies are more powerfull than a lower note and travel further distances which makes it seem louder. Quality woofers are made to dampen that sound and make it more realistic. Anyway...after saying all that....the IDMAX can be very loud...but I don't think you will beat the overall volume of the solo baric. One more thing...you can put one of those solo barics in a vented box and it will be louder than the 2 in sealed. I have done it. I put 2 of them in my friends S-10 in a vented box and you can barely sit in it. Either way...you need to increase power.

Yeh thats what I'm doing, getting another amp.

I agree with the whole end of thread thing. My question has been answered and I need no more replies. Thanks for the ones I got.
