Basically look at it this way......have you ever listened to a cheap woofer? Say like a kicker comp, or jl w0 or mtx thunder 4500? You will notice that they play the upper frequencies much louder. And those frequencies are more powerfull than a lower note and travel further distances which makes it seem louder. Quality woofers are made to dampen that sound and make it more realistic. Anyway...after saying all that....the IDMAX can be very loud...but I don't think you will beat the overall volume of the solo baric. One more thing...you can put one of those solo barics in a vented box and it will be louder than the 2 in sealed. I have done it. I put 2 of them in my friends S-10 in a vented box and you can barely sit in it. Either way...you need to increase power.
First of all.......as stated above...an IDMAX is made more for SQ than SPL. The woofer plays the frequencies differently than an L7. The L7 was made to be as loud as possible...I honestly don't like the woofers myself. I think they sound like crap. But what most people go for in a sub is the loudest thing they can get. Image Dynamics makes their cones different than a kicker. The designed it to limit resonances...the solo not so much so.
