IDMaxes not that loud...

I'm new to the forum but not to car audio.

My last setup was a pair of 12L7 kickers, the first ones to come out that were rated at 750rms max. I had 750W ran to the pair. These were in a standard cab 1500 chevy truck at one point and later in a 99 4runner.

My most recent purchases are 2 idMax D2 12's and a Memphis PRD1000 amp. I bought the amp before i knew that i was going to buy another sub. I have the subs wired in series/parallel so i end up with a 2 ohm load. The amp puts out 600W rms at 2ohms. I know this isn't alot but as i said before I bought the amp before I bought the 2nd sub. This is all in a 2002 tacoma ext. cab.

Before I bought anything I wanted to see what was out there that i hadnt seen before. After alot of research I decided to go with idMax for the subs. I read alot of good things about them, namely how loud they are.

My problem is they don't sound even as loud as my old L7's. I know that they might not be much louder but I can assure you that they aren't even as loud. The L7's could make my eyes shake and my nose tingle, the Max's do not.

Both of the subs are used but were used for much longer than the break-in period, 3months on one and a year on the other. The rubber surround on the year-used sub is noticably stiffer than the younger sub. The box for the L7's was built to manufacturers specs as is the box for the max's. Both boxes are/were sealed.

What could be my problem here. Am I not feeding them enough power?

1st. IDMAX is more of a SQ sub.

2nd. you need more power

3rd. the The L7's are more of a SPL sub

4th. you have a Memphis PRD1000 amp rated, 600x1 @ 2 ohms / 1000x1 @ 1ohm

5th. you have a IDMAX D2, you should use that 1Ohms that the amp makes. its 1000X1. you have 2 IDMAX's running on a 600W@2ohms. soo that means each sub is getting 300W@2ohms right?

Each IDMAX is getting 300W, whats wrong with this picture??

Like you said "I'm new to the forum but not to car audio." If you know anything about car audio, this would of not happend.

Running 2 IDMAX's on a 600W@2ohms and say "it's not loud"

IS this the AMP you have????

Here are your responses to:

#1. I realize that. As I stated before, I did alot of research before the purchase.

#2. I think I covered this when I stated: "The amp puts out 600W rms at 2ohms. I know this isn't alot but as i said before I bought the amp before I bought the 2nd sub."

#3. I discovered this aswell during my quest for information before my purchase.

#4. If I'm not mistaken I think I already had this figured out in my initial post in this sentance: "The amp puts out 600W rms at 2ohms." Infact, I killed #'s 3 and 4 with that statement.

#5. Correct. Actually I have two IDmax 12D2's. If you show me a stable way to wire them at 1-ohm so that the amp puts out its full 1000W then I will give you the subs and amp for free. Shipping included.

As I had said before: "I bought the amp before i knew that i was going to buy another sub." So I bought the amp to power 1 sub initially where I could give that one sub 1000W. I bought another sub after the first one failed to satisfy but have not bought another amp yet. So the lowest load I can get with two dual 2 subs is two ohms. The amp puts out 600W @ 2Ohm. I have two subs. 2 subs / 600W = 300W per sub. Yep, your math checks out.

During my research I read that you can run an IDmax on as little as 250W with no problem. Given it will not be nearly as loud as it would on full power, it can still be done. I don't see running the two on 600W as a really big deal, but also don't plan on keeping these subs running on 1/3 of their max power.

I guess this was my real question and it probably should have been stated this simple in the first place:

How noticable (in loudness) will an increase in power from 600W total to 1200W total on 2 IDMax 12D2's be?

I should have made it clear in my first post that I intend to get an amp that puts out around 1200W@2ohm in the near future.

600 on two of them isnt enough power.
Yeh I know it is only 3/10ths the maxium power that the subs will handle AND still well below their reccomended rms handling.

SO, If I double the power to 600 PER sub, will I notice quite a big difference?

Yes Sir you will. Get an eD Nine.1
how will this help much?

going form 1000rms @1ohms to 1200rms @ 1ohms(i would compare the 2ohm rms but im to lazy to look for it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif )

find an amp that does around 1200-2000@2ohms and go with it, or get 2 1000rms @1ohm amps

or an IA 20.1 @.5ohms

Carefully, and I mean carefully run the Memphis at .5 ohms. I have the M-clas which is the exact same internals as yours and it will run at .5.

If that doesnt work for you get another 1000d or anohter larger amp all together.

You cant expect a pair of square subs with more power to not be louder unless installed improper.

omg, I can't belive this entire thread at all. 2 subs fed with 750 rms each is louder than 2 subs fed with 300 rms each. OMG really!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!? holy crap!!! I had a Max D4 in a sealed running off a crappy BX1500D (at 2ohm overrated, really getting 800?) and it got plenty loud. Like they suggest above, grab another memphis and power each sub with 1 amp. That should make u cry.

He said 750 to the pair, so that is 375 to each of the solos...

Arite, sorry I'm tired. Been doing my setup all day. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

Still sticking to my statement of the IDMax needing more power tho.
