hey i plan to get ONE 12 inch idMAX dual 2-ohm and run it at 4 ohms (in series) with a viper d2500.1. should i put the sub in a ported box or in a sealed enclosure? what about when going with TWO 12" idMAX's powered in 2ohms by a viper d2500.1 (which i plan to do in far future)?? 95% of my music is RAP and the other 5% is slow jams and R&B.. i want SQL!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif

If you have a large amount of space to use up, about 3>ft you should go ported. The ported box will play lower so you could cross them off at about 35hz and get some nice bass. If you dont have alot of space you could go sealed or even aperiodic but the latter takes some tallent to make so if you are going to make the box........study first.

what are the advantages of using a sealed box (sound-wise) ??
To be honest, there is no sound - wise advantages to using a sealed box. The only reason you go sealed is to save space. If you notice in most SQ vehicles they use ported boxes because of the fz that they play down to. Plain n simple no reason to use a sealed box!

Well...

You do have more output down low with a sealed box than a ported one, simply because you have to roll off the output starting at a half octave below tuning...but lowering the tuning frequency to something really low (like 20Hz) alleviates this.

^agree there are reasons to use sealed. Better response, good sq, handles all hz the same (no peaks), saves space, and is simple. The output will be less tho and for a single setup I would do ported. U will get lots of SQL that way. Tune around 30-35 IMO and it will sound great. If you had a dual setup and had the power to power them I would then suggest sealed cuz all of the advantages of having a sealed box X2 would be pwnage.

kk.. soo ill go ported with one.. and sealed with two later on.. now how about cubic ft.? how do i determine that.. this is the recommended enclosure size on the companys web page:

1.30 -1.52 cu.ft. sealed (1.8 – 2.50 cu.ft. vented @ 28Hz), Infinite baffle

so what would i want my ported box to be?????
