The VLX-400 I have here is about 45.5" long and I told the guy to never send one of these things here ever again. I hate working on them.... Such a pain in the *** to take apart and put back together.... yuck... purplely old junk....Old Skool Rules! I mean come on who wouldn't want 40" of purpley amp?
Proof they are junk?I wouldn't.
And I am not be-littleing someones choice of amp... it really is old junk, just stating a fact, that's not an opinion....
I suppose if they were run within their proper limitations they would be okay, but I have had enough of them come through here that I have drawn my conclusion. This particular guy with the VLX-400 has 4 of them. He's not hitting the numbers in the comps that he wants too.... he has never heard of most of the stuff that his competitors are running, proof that he didn't do his homework. Living in the past. Way more bang for the buck with the newer amps, and if you ever have to work on an old US Amps better be careful, like the old Orions, the PCB tears up really easily. Total PITA all the way around if you ask me. Just not interested.Proof they are junk?
The 12 us amps I have owned have all been bulletproof.
Edit: And yes i have owned a 2 vlxs.
Same heatsink, different boards. The one he is looking at his probably an older model than the one you posted and is probably rated for less power, doesn't look like it has the caps in it to be rated like the VLX-200. It has to be some other weird older model US Amps.Def possible! Just a little different in there!
That I can understand. Thank you for clarifying.I suppose if they were run within their proper limitations they would be okay, but I have had enough of them come through here that I have drawn my conclusion. spendy addiction.
Nah nothing wrong with that, I thought about running my Colossus in my Caprice daily... LOL.. imagine what some people who knew what it was would say? That I can understand. Thank you for clarifying.
I agree there are more powerful amps for the money and if you are trying to compete SPL I would not go old school at all, but for daily there is nothing wrong with a little nostalgia. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
If I ever find a series viii colossus I will run it daily on two 12s instead of the zeus I am running now on one 12.Nah nothing wrong with that, I thought about running my Colossus in my Caprice daily... LOL.. imagine what some people who knew what it was would say?
Especially because this amp would be going into a 60's purple VW Bus //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gifThat I can understand. Thank you for clarifying.

What would you guys consider a reasonable price? If you can grab that at a reasonable price you should do it. I'm sure you won't regret it.
That'd be sweet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gifSeems to be really rare...maybe one of a kind custom amp?
