just installed my boys system (P3 and PA 600w 2 channel). i got 2 problems. first, when i tried to set the gains i couldnt get the desired voltage. the amp puts out 600 at 4ohm, but im using a 2 ohm load. i tried setting the gains for 800w (sqrt(800*2)=40), but with the gain all the way up, it only reads 18v. theres no setting for high/low level preamp v either. the deck is a deh-p3700 mp3.

second problem, the sub doesnt play anything. the amp reads 18v at the speaker terminals, but the sub doesnt flinch. its a DVC4 wired in series. i dont get it. i contacted forsgate forever about it cause he sold it to me, but havent heard back yet. you guys got any ideas?

If it's a DVC4 wired in series, you know it's an 8 ohm load, correct?

See the sub's terminals?

Stick the red wire on the positive one and the black one on the negative.

Does the deck have a sub control?

Is the amp stable at 2 ohms mono? Why is the gain set for 800 on a 600 watt amp?

anyways, ill try it when i get home saturday. what reading should i look for? the resistance of each coil?

the deck is a 3700. it has front and rear preouts no sub, but ive used rear b4 for the sub nd its worked. and also, the amp is reading 18V at the terminals, so it must be working.
the amp ISNT stable at 2 ohms mono, but ive been told by some people that itll handle it fine. and the amp doesnt jump into protection mode or shut off or anything. it works fine, just the sub plays nuthing. i was setting the gain for 800 cause "theoretically" at 2 ohm mono, the amp would put out 1200w. and i know tghe amp is overated + i dont wanna fry the 500w rms sub, so i set the gains for 800w.

Set the dmm to the horse shoe looking Symbol for resistance. Then red to the positive, black to negative. Should be in the ball park of 1.5 for each coil. Give or take a little. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah, but im not gonna make any assumptions because he seems like a real nice guy. so im gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. i just would like to know what all i need to do to troubleshoot the problem

thats what i would have guessed to do. but tell me why it should read 1.5 a coil? i would have thought it would be 4 a coil
