ID, IDQ, or others?

I am gonna run a single 10 pushed by a Fosgate amp at about 400 or so watts. Would I be able to run the IDQ sub which is rated at 250 watts rms? The ID is 400 watts rms. There is a IDQ rated at 500 watts, but it is really out of my price range. I can really spend no more than $150 for the sub. Is there any other sub to consider for SQ? Thanks.

With the power you have, I'd suggest the IDQ 12 over the 10" version. It'll go into a cube or less and you can pick one up used for $150, or so.

I'll throw another choice into the mix...

These are hella nice and if they matched up with my amp, I'd be running a set.

They work well in .5-.75cft., but seem to really shine in .7cft. ported, from what I understand.

I thought about the 12 IDQ which is 350 watts, I can get it new for 200. However, I would like to be under 150 so that is still a little much. What would I have to do to run the IDQ 250 rms on my amp? Would I bridge it and keep the gain turned down? Thanks.

Yes, but I am almost positive that a 10" IDQ won't be enough to keep you happy.

I have a 12", which isn't enough for me... and I'm not a basshead, by any stretch of the imagination.

I have 2 10 inch JBL's now, and I keep them turned way down. I have ran a single Kenwood 10 and I kept it all the way up and it was good. The Dayton looks good on paper, 600 watts rms and price isnt bad. I thought about 2 8's, but believe this one 10 will do the trick. So running the 250 watt IDQ would work with my amp????? Im learning so bear with me. Thank you.

It will work. Just keep the gain in check. Maybe it'll be loud enough for you, IDK.

I'll tell you what... Go for it. If it's not loud enough, let me know. I've been considering going to 2 10's. Maybe I'll trade my 12 for your 10. No promises, though. lol

You can lower the gain until your 400W amp becomes about a 2W amp, but you are pi$$ing power away... which is why I suggested the 12" in the first place.

What difference will there be in sound between one 10 and one 12? Is one better for SQ? Again, price is the only thing keeping me from doing this. I am trying to keep the whole system under 200, but a custom box is 135, so 65 is nothing for a sub. I would like to get out for 250, but as said, spending 250 and having crap will not make me happy, so if it takes 300, we may go there. What about running 2 8's, would that be comparable to a 10 or 12? Thanks a lot.

2 8's are fairly equal to a 12 and better than a single 10, but when you're on a budget 1 larger sub beats 2 smaller ones everytime.

SQ is unaffected by cone size.

... And you can do a helluva lot better than $135 for a box.

i just put my IDQ in a 1 cube sealed box and the output is actually better than my ported box. I think my ported box must have been wayy to small! Now i dont really feel the need to sell so badly.... haha. Depending on the vehicle i think the single 10"idqv3 would deff. be loud enough for you. So in that case i think the 12" IDQv2 would be enough for you. The difference in the 15"v2 and 10"v3 is umm i guess the v3 has a better build quality and the 15" was louder, but when it comes to SQ i dont really think you would be able to tell a difference. I may be wrong, but i sure cant tell the diff.

he is right about that. Building a sealed box is pretty simple, and a slot ported box is not too far behind. I say spend $25 on wood, glue, and screws and use that $110 to go toward your sub.

Guys I need to know what to do. I fell in love with this box, http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3623 when I saw it. I am also considering this box: http://www.proboxrocks.com/products/enclosures/unloaded/hatchback/112HB/index.shtml However, I have been told that putting even the best sub in a prefab will be pointless, which is when I started looking at custom from builders on here. Would the IDQ 12 and the box in the link I gave sound as good as the same sub in a built box by someone on here (bjfish11)? If so, that gives me WAY more options. Both of those seem to be a little big, but since the actual sub will take up some of that space, it should be close, right? I like the look of dual subs which is why I was thinking about 2 8's, but those will be more expensive than a single 10 or 12.
