I admit it... don't know what this means //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

Trying to outfit my Daughter's car and tossing around trying something different and using the wholes that are there. In this 1995 Cavalier I think the 6x9's can be adapted to fit these:

Since I am trying to get bass back there without adding a huge box or big amp these got me interested. Work okay mounted in the rear deck? Or anyone know of a 6"-6.6" sub that will work as good or better?

You should be able to easily fit an 8" subwoofer in the 6x9 openings with minimal modification, if any. Simply build an enclosure, minus the rear panel, and install it below the 6x9 openings with the open side of the enclosure up against the bottom of the rear deck.

Would result in much better performance than a pair of 6.5" subwoofers.

Along with the above mentioned subwoofers, I'd look at the Image Dynamics ID8v3. Great little subwoofer.

Trying to not go broke doing it since in essence it isn't my car. That would mean cheap 8's. What options?
I guess I'm not sure what you're definition of "cheap" is....but the Image Dynamic ID8v3's are pretty cost effective. I think MSRP is only like $120 each.

speakers are measured on a baffle to get the free air measurements.

putting them in a box changes the specs somewhat.

a normal sealed box changes these to something more desirable.

how much a box affects things is based loosely on size -- making a box larger then a certain size only affects the specs of the woofer slightly.

IB woofers are made to work well in any box larger then this size -- thus an 8" IB woofer might be designed to work in a 2ft^3 sealed box or larger and still be called an IB woofer. basically for a large enough box, the specs are the same as the free-air specs.

best results are obtained by isolating the front wave from the rear wave. eg, placing an airtight wood/fiberglass barrier on the trunk/rear deck -- basically making the entire trunk into an airtight box. failure to do this will allow some of the rear wave to cancel the front wave. if the rearwave is naturally attenuated by 10dB or more, it may be fine just to let it be as the rearwave will not significantly affect the front wave

not all IB woofers are applicable. for instance some home audio IB woofers are made for boxes larger then a car. their intended use -- a room or attic -- is large enough to be concidered IB, but a car's trunk would be incredibly small. so stick with IB woofers designed for car audio!

infinite baffle means just that.. no baffle!
Incorrect.

Infinite baffle means the subwoofer has no enclosure, or an enclosure large enough to not significantly affect the subwoofer's performance.

They are still mounted on a baffle, and the frontwave and rearwave need to be completely isolated from each other.

a speaker recommend for IB will always sound better being sealed up...
Again, very incorrect.

Infinite baffle works very well if the subwoofer performs well in such an enviorment. It's the preferred method for those wanting true sound quality.

I think you may be thinking of free-air, which is completely different than infinite baffle.

infinite baffle means just that.. no baffle! I always baffle any speaker... a speaker recommend for IB will always sound better being sealed up... just my .02
Actually it means that the baffle goes on forever. The rear wave is fully isolated from the front wave and the enclosed airspace on either side of the baffle is large enough that it doesn't appreciably affect the response of the speaker.

I think you may be thinking of free-air, which is completely different than infinite baffle.
Not completely different actually. IB is a free-air application separating the front and rear wave of the driver. Free air simply means that there are no enclosure effects.
