IB 15" Question

Was looking at putting one of these:

In mounted in a baffle and mount the amps to the baffle. My question is do I need one or is two nessecary for an IB setup to be effective (as per the description in the Parts Express website).

They listen to alot of rock and metal, with some jazz and lounge/breakbeats. They want something that will sound clean and true and take up minimal space.

The car is a 2001 Honda Accord EX. It's a pretty trick sleeper ride, lowered two inches with full exhaust and chips in the ****** and the engine (yay). It belongs to some great friends of mine. His wife will drive he car on a 2 hour commute three days a week. So sounds are very important.

It has Polk DB speakers in the stock locations, but the front will be replaced with a nice set of comps, maybe rainbows or something from Madisound or Parts express. But first we are going to get some subs in it, as they take the most modification...

A single IB15 isn't going to handle a lot of power (~100W) in a typical trunk, but it will get crazy low and be very efficient.

Running a pair would allow you to wire to 4-ohms, and it would allow you to run about double the power to each one (~400W for the pair). The Qtc alignment would be higher with a pair, but it will be such a low-end monster that I really don't think it will matter...

I talked with the Parts Express guys and they suggested only one, two would get 4 ohms but not much more output.

So how can the power handling be that low? Not that we need alot of power but more info on the power handling will really help when it comes to selecting an amplifier.

That is just the predicted mechanical power handling from BassBox... the larger the box, the less power it takes to reach Xmax. In reality, it will likely handle more power than that... a lot depends on how well sealed off the trunk is, and how much stuff they keep in it... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ah, ok. Cool //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif That makes sense. I am planning on using about a 4-500 watt amp and the power loss from running an 8 ohm sub should smooth out to be about the power you suggest.

Well, It looks like this will be the best option for what they need.

It will take up less space than a couple sealed 12's, and provide a a place to mount the amps and other gadgetry . The only concern I have really is that the rear seat may kill alot of the sound produced by the 15, it'll be hard to install because the seat does not fold as the EX is a coupe. Also I wonder what effect the 15 will have on the 6x9's mounted on the rear deck.
