Iamamp3pimp Ftmfw!!!!!

Ahem......AMEN brutha!
Sorry "brutha", I don't agree with you. While the staining is questionable, it doesn't warrant saying "WOW THAT LOOKS LIKE SHIT, WHO WOULD WANT THAT?"

Robin's skills are some of the best on here, so instead of saying how everything looks bad, you should think about what exactly you don't like. I can guarantee it isn't the box itself, it's the method of staining.

Pimp, what I would do in the future is to never use screws when building a box for stain, and to not use a colored stain either. If you want color, it would be easier to use MDF and paint it instead.

you sound experienced and you are probably right but robin built exactly what i asked him for and i am extremely happy with the result

You need to watch the edges with the sander, laminated plywood doesn't like to be sanded flat before staining. That looks like danish oil w/ poly. Amirite?
that was w the roundover bit, it was a 3/8 inch roundover bit. the very reason that i ddint use a roundover on the large enclosure.

and no, its Minwax Polyshades one step cherry gloss finish with polyurethane.

I am by no means an expert on painting or staining, but I have done a fair bit of it and birch ply doesn't like to be stained very much. His previous box with the poly finish is about as good as it can get while showing endgrain.

im working on the screwless, i still havent perfected it so i wont sell it.

as far as coloring the stain, Ill continue ti use colored stain, the next thing that ill be posting, even though it isnt an enclosure, it will be a CD rack Stained Deep blue, and after that a workbench with parts stained Crimson red with a black "overlay" if you will.

Hmm, looks almost exactly like danish oil, you should try that out. Gives the wood a nice, deep rustic look.

Okay man...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I'm just saying, you won't really get the results you're looking for with a colored stain on this type of wood. It doesn't lend itself to high quality finishes. I have been wrong in the past however. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

as have I

for a box.....if you dont want the layers of the wood on the edges showing, and dont wanna use MDF, what would would be best to use or how could you cover that if you plan on staining it.
really no way to do it without cutting the ends @ a 45 degree angle.

Ummm, I never asked who would want it. My first post discussed the cosmetics of the box. I even said in a later post that the build is obviously fine, just the method/color is ugly IMO. I even went on to say that the builder has no control over what the buyer's wants/tastes are.

I pointed out the use of screws on a non-fabric covered box as well as the staining. You pointed out the exact same things. So, who's wrong here?

He willingly posted it here on the big ol' world wide web for input, and I gave my input. Hell, the builder himself may hate the finish, truth be known. But like he said earlier, it's what the buyer wanted.
