IA DP 15 vs DC XL 15 M2

I just figure why not. I cant get a totally different sub and just redesign a box and the only money in it will be pretty much $10 in gas and a little wood so no much really anyway. Im going to sale my current box so thats going to make up for some of what im going to spend on wood seeing i get birch for $35 a sheet
Try the 18 if you think you have 5-6 cube for it, you may really like it and I would be surprised if you break it with a "3K" Soundstream amp.

Me too I like swapping all components of the system, I think if you tried another amp you would find some gain not only in output but low end as well. I went from a IA 20.1 to a bc2k, and the sound produced was completely different; even though the two were close in power and from respected companies. Maybe what you want can't be found in the sub but the amp. But hey try the 18 if that's what you want.
This. I'd say gains across the board with a different amp.

God help us if Faceberg is the new authority on anything beyond high-school tier gossip.

Seriously I'm just reporting what I've seen in person, subs that failed when they shouldn't have and some very poorly built but very expensive recones.

Sorry if it hurts your feelings but I'm not making this up and I doubt the other guys who have seen similar failures aren't making it up either. Funny how this "rumor" decided to single out DC and not Digital Designs, Incriminator, Sundown, Fi, or any of the other big players. Do you suppose this is some giant conspiracy against DC?
The car audio company pages on Facebook are no less an authority than this forum. Who said my feelings are hurt? Who said this was a conspiracy? It's quite possible you got a bad sub and now bash the company at ever opportunity. The same way someone has a transmission replaced and then bashes the auto manufacturer every time someone brings up cars or transmissions. I've seen the same couple people on the same couple forums touting this and my observations is that half the time it's someone who heard something someone like you said and are just repeating it. A dozen claims out of thousands of subs doesn't mean anything. Far more people who have DC subs have had no issues whatsoever. But you have fun......

That's debatable, but I'd certainly suggest that they're no replacement for real world experience.

Nope, the only DC branded product I've ever used was the old PAI 2K amp which was really solid (same board as the old Sundown 2K)

I'll repeat, I've seen personally with my own eyes, at least 2 different people and 5 different DC subs have issues that were absolutely due to poor quality parts/assembly. I've seen 3 different LV6 V1 recone kits for which my friend paid an awful lot of money built completely wrong, take far too long to deliver, and fail when they shouldn't have. I'm not a sub company and if I can rebuild those same subs to survive there's no excuse for DC not to have done that to begin with. Granted most people are not pushing the limits of things but when you bill yourself as producing competition tier products and you should be over-building. Perhaps it's just luck of the draw that so many random duds wound up in my area, or perhaps the vast majority of users don't push things to the limit and beyond so they'll never encounter these failures.

The point being, these same guys could have bought the same tier sub from a half dozen other manufacturers for more or less the same price and not experienced the same failures.

The same way someone has a transmission replaced and then bashes the auto manufacturer every time someone brings up cars or transmissions.
Or the same way that early 80's Toyotas get a repuation for rusting out because an unusually high percentage of them rust out? Or why the Pinto got a reputation for blowing up if they're in a collision? Sure, the guys who live in Arizona never have problems with their old Toyotas' frames rusting through and the guys who never got rear ended didn't have their Pinto explode but these problems did exist for those makes/models where they did not for others.

You can deny this, ignore it, or whatever you like, but again, I ask, do you suppose it's just luck of the draw that DC and not one of the other brands has got this reputation?

i actually do have 5-6 cubes for it. i may c-pillar wall for shits and giggles. Im also doing research to try and stay away from the enclosure issues for them like a really efficent box will cause them to fall apart lol

Hopefully this one is fine. Its not just the stock Xl m2 18, he has different basket on it. He has a 12 spoke basket on it instead of the stock 6 spoke they normally have on it. I heard the 6 spoke was part of the problem with the soft parts as well. Idk how true that is but i did read that somewhere while doing research on them and issues. I dont think i should break it lol. Hell my teammate has 6 of them in a 4th order with each of them seeing 2100 clamped each and they have seemed to hold up pretty well, i dont know the dimensions of it though

You'd be hard pressed to break an 18" mechanically on that power even in a large box I think. C pillar wall would be fun if you could find a pair. Here's a tip if you go that route, however much room you think you'll have you will probably wind up with 2/3 of that once you actually get it fleshed out.

i also just learned these are PSI softies on a the XL M2 motor so its not the stock DC parts or basket. It has the M2 motor with the PSI 12 spoke basket and softies and put a DC dustcap on it. i seen in the pics that basket was different from the stock 6 spoke you get from DC and he said the parts where upgraded from the start. i assumed he meant they were DC upgraded but he sent me the specs for it this morning

I haven't been thrilled with PSi softparts I've personally used but at least he builds stuff really strong. Like I said, it's pretty tough to mechanically break an 18 in that tier on even a legit 3K amp so you'll probably be fine. Downside now is that if you wanted to find a second one later and do s pair/wall you'r likely not going to get an exact match.

yea thats true. Though if i did a wall i was just thinking of doing the one for laughs. But i could always trade for another 18 and get a second one.

I really do like PSI parts, ive never experienced problems with them and everyone i know uses them for their recones
