IA DP 15 vs DC XL 15 M2

That's what I'm saying...acouple people started spreading the rumor online and then Everyone says it in every DC audio woofer question thread. I'm a sundown nut hugger so I still don't wanna buy DC but their soft parts are fine.
a guy just messaged me last night and offered to trade me a XL 18 M2 for my IA. This has my interest because its a 18 and i will gain some power because i can wire back down to .5 ohm with it

Not if your keeping that same box. Low notes and small boxes don't go well together. My buddy that had XL 18 has it in about 5.25 cubes.

And if that's the case I'd rather have a 15" DP in a different box.

oh no i would rebuild the box lol. 4 cubes i small i know, and i know DC's perform well in smaller enclosures. I actually did a XL M1 18 in a 4.75 net(i believe) with 1 8" aero and it performed pretty well and on low power. It did a 146 sealed on the dash @ 37hz in IASCA IDBL with about 800 watts(shark2500). thats not super loud but with the power etc not bad at all.

It will be at atleast 5 cubes net @ min

im actually working on a design. how much port do XL M2 18s like? i cant seem to find anything

I vote keep the IA and try for a more solid amp to power it. Any good 2k will produce more power then that sound stream your using. That IA is the way to go your swapping for no reason. If you can fit a 5cu box for a 18 why not build a 5cu box for the IA. Doesn't make much sense to trade a sub that had the potential to do what your looking for if you feed it more power and put it in a slightly larger box. Just my 2 cents. I'll have a death row 18 I would trade you if I don't like it for that dp 15.

The box i have now is along the correct line for the IA? Why would i move to 5 cubes net for it? Thats pretty large for most 15s. Also i said 5 at minimum i never said that it would just be a 5 cube box for the 18. Depending on how i build it i have more then 5 cubes available.

Because if you put it in a larger enclosure you will gain some efficiency. He said about not spot on. My death row 18 box was recommend from 7-10cu and I believe the do 18 was 8-11cu recommend by nick. Scale that down to a 15 and your talking 4-7cu. So I stand behind the larger box and more power. Stop trying new sub's tell you've seen the best of what you got.

I said that i am happy with the IA. im not trashing it in any way. I try new stuff because i like trying different equipment. I have had the IA now for just about a year(about 10 months). I was going to just keep the IA over the XL M2 15, but when this other guy local offered the M2 18 that got me interested because i have not had an 18 in like 3-4 years it seems and again thats something different.

Me too I like swapping all components of the system, I think if you tried another amp you would find some gain not only in output but low end as well. I went from a IA 20.1 to a bc2k, and the sound produced was completely different; even though the two were close in power and from respected companies. Maybe what you want can't be found in the sub but the amp. But hey try the 18 if that's what you want.

I just figure why not. I cant get a totally different sub and just redesign a box and the only money in it will be pretty much $10 in gas and a little wood so no much really anyway. Im going to sale my current box so thats going to make up for some of what im going to spend on wood seeing i get birch for $35 a sheet

I asked this question on FB as well and couldn'tfind a single person that ever had an issue with a DC sub that they didnt self declare as user error. IE, unloading or double rated power.
God help us if Faceberg is the new authority on anything beyond high-school tier gossip.

Seriously I'm just reporting what I've seen in person, subs that failed when they shouldn't have and some very poorly built but very expensive recones.

Sorry if it hurts your feelings but I'm not making this up and I doubt the other guys who have seen similar failures aren't making it up either. Funny how this "rumor" decided to single out DC and not Digital Designs, Incriminator, Sundown, Fi, or any of the other big players. Do you suppose this is some giant conspiracy against DC?
