ipersonally would do the single 18 will be more cost effective and a better sounding woofer but if you need 15's for a reasonable price these are the best for your price range.

I vote 1 18 or 15 that will handle the power well.

DC Lvl 4 or 4XL would work great.

Not to downplay the abilities of the 187's, this is just my opinion.

I am very confident you would not be disappointed with a single 18 that would shine with 1500rms. Especially in a proper box. And you will be able to get a very capable 18 or 15 for your budget new or classifieds.

I'm not sure. What do you think of a Sundown 1500 running a Nightshade 18? What size box would the 18 need? I listen mainly to rap music, but I want the sound to be "punchy". Can a 18 even be "punchy"?

yes the night shade is amazing and can dig low man, 18 is great for rap music

I have a Sun Down 1500d. I'm looking for a pair of 15's to go in the back of a Suburban. I have narrowed it down to pair of IA 187's, a pair of RE SRX's, or a pair of Kicker CompVR's. I can get all of these for about $250 including shipping. I want it to be loud, but I also want it to sound good. I will build the box to exact recommended specs. for whatever sub I decide. Any opinions on which ones to go with, or any other ideas. I must stay under $300 shipped.

buy the 187's i have had them on 500 watts for a while they take it very well. i have 4 12's check out my build log in my sig.
