I will be adding a second amp, how to wire??

I currently have 4 gauge kicker wireing amp kit installed it is sopposably rated at 1000watts RMS. Im running a 100a high uotput fuse at the moment. Ill be adding another amp for my highs for my front setup. Im planning to get some type of adapter and place it towards the end of the wire about 2 feet before the amp so i can connect the othger amp. Would i run into any probloms?? I curerenlty have a red top optima battery. I plan to do a big 3 upgrade, i have no capacitor and using a stock alternator. Any thoguhts??

Which amps are you going to be running?

If they are small amps, I recommend running a 1/0ga wire to the back with a distribution block splitting off to two short 4ga runs to the amps.

If one is a larger amp, I recommend running your current 4ga to the small amp and a 1/0ga run to the large amp.

If both amps are large, scrap the 4ga and use 2 rungs of 1/0.

You should be fine with one run of 1/0 split to two 4ga for your two amplifiers in my opinion.

That is what i thought since the wire i have is supposably rated at 1000rms but i didnt know if it was a good idea. so i am fine with the 100a high output fuse That is in the engine bay??

WHAT EVER YOU DO ! do not go cheap like I did and use home electrical for the short runs. 1/0 for the battery to D-Block worked out fine, but today I just installed my second amp and the home elctrical 4awg was horrible to work with . Forget about watts. You need to calculate amps. How many amps does your sub amp use, how many does your other amp use. Add those together. Is that less than 120 amps? 4 gauge wire will usually handle about 120 amps. Does your fuse holder handle that much? You need to know if can, or is 100 amps the max for the fuse holder, even though the wire can handle more.

Then you can decide if your 4 gauge run will handle the load, or if it's time to step up to 0 gauge wire. Class D sub amps are much more effiecient, use less power and can use thinner cable than A/B class amps.

Just look up the model numbers online. Check them out at the better webstores like crutchfield and woofers etc and they should list how many amps they draw. Amperes is the measure of current draw = how much power it uses.

Remeber the job of the guy at the caur audio shop is to sell you stuff, not give out free info on how to save you money.

Crutchfield says it's fused for 40A x 2. That means you should expect it to draw about 80 amps of power. It's a class D, that's good. We need to know what the other amplifier will draw to know if your cable and fuse can handle it.

According to this site, the ZX-600 draws up to 60 amps. 80 + 60 = 140 amps. That's over the limit for 4 gauge. As suggested above, run a 0 gauge to a distro and 4 gauge to each with 4 gauge grounds to each. With a 60 and a 80 amp fuse to each.

Ouch, What's the most amp's a 4 gauge wire can handle? Has anyone ever tried running 140 amp's on a 4 gauge?
