Ok, who here thinks they can hear the difference between 2 different amps as long as they aren't being clipped or doing any processing?

Let's say the cheapest 100x2 amp money can buy running at 80 watts, no clipping, no processing, vs anything you can find set to run at 80 watts.

I'm willing to bet you can't, and thousands of "golden ears" have proven that you can't.

If you hear a preference in two different amps, that preference is either in processing or distortion. It's that simple. A Boss watt unclipped and unprocessed will sound no worse than a *take your pick* watt unclipped and unprocessed.

Discuss, argue, fight, agree, let the games begin! Just remember, we aren't talking build quality, looks, nut hugging factor, etc. I also know this has been discussed before, but I know a lot of people disagree. Who is with me, who is against me, and why?

In fact I will take this a step further. I will bet that a good portion of people here would prefer the sound of a tube amp with terrible specs vs. a solid state amp with pristine specs. What is the reason for that? The human ear, for whatever reason, finds a clipping tube amp warm and full, and a clean solid state amp sterile and flat.

I know it was, and I contributed there. It wasn't the totality of the issue though... let's talk about this. Give me some opinions, I don't care if you agree with me and science or not. I'm just bored out of my skull, and want to talk some real ****.

A lot of you know more about car audio than I do, but I've been into high end home audio, albeit "vintage" stuff, for more years that a lot of you have been alive. I'm also a musician.

I'll be honest. My ears are so bad, I don't even usually feel that bass is "loud" until it is hard clipped and harsh. I for sure could not tell the difference between amps.

And bad ears or not, NOBODY can tell the difference unless the signal is clipped or otherwise processed. It's science.

Is a Zed better than an Onyx? **** yes! Does it sound better? If you don't start clipping and processing ****, **** no!

I am firmly in the boat that as long as it's unclipped, the sound of an amp is not distinguishable from another. That being said some amps have FEATURES that make them more desirable.
