I Want To Make Some Enemies

I can say that my ears would not be good enough to tell the difference in a test like this.....not even close...this constant ringing is no good.....

As far as the tube/ss thing...

I think(IIRC) when a tube amp clips, it makes an odd-order harmonic distortion which the human ear is not as sensitive to...

When a SS amp clips, it makes an even-order harmonic distortion which the ear can usually pick up on right away.(at least good ears...)

(this may be the other way around as far as odd and even go via which one makes what)

An SS amp gets straight nasty after just a little bit of clipping where as a tube amp dose not(that warm thing)

I know the Emmits in my Kappas do NOT like clipping from SS amps( I have fried a set) one bit but the do not seem to be

bothered what ever clipping my tubes give them.....

That could be one more difference between the 2??

Now I can say that my ears are good enough to tell the difference between tube and SS power in the above type of test.....

At least you can change the way a valve amps sounds somewhat....change out the tubes!(pre amp and voltage multipliers)

With SS....your stuck with what it has....

And to take this a step further, I can hear a distorted guitar and I'm willing to bet 80 percent of the time I can tell you if they are playing a Marshall, a Mesa-Boogie, a Fender, something solid state, etc. and if they are running a pedal in front of the amp to boost it. There are some amps like a Mesa-Boogie .50+ (my favorite amp) that is a Marshall circuit with an extra gain stage that might throw me, but most of the time I can nail what is on a guitar recording. Know why? They DISTORT differently. Differences in amps come into play when distortion enters the mix. I am 99 percent sure I could do a blind a/b/c playing through three guitar amps and tell you if they are tube or solid state. Now, listening to music is a completely different story.

And bad ears or not, NOBODY can tell the difference unless the signal is clipped or otherwise processed. It's science.
Is a Zed better than an Onyx? **** yes! Does it sound better? If you don't start clipping and processing ****, **** no!

Then please, please, explain to me what makes it so much better?

I understand your reasoning for thinking like this.

But it comes down to this like everything else in life, you get what you pay for.

You pay for cheap **** it might work fine but they use cheap materials and ****** laborers and the products are not solid.

Yes, $100 amp may sound the same as a $200 amp.

5 years down the road when you replaced that $100 amp 5 times your $200 amp is still doing its job.
