I want better sounding bass

I have been into car audio for a while and have owned various types of equipment. I tell myself that I switch out subs because I want to try out different types and hear whats out there. But also, I still have not found the perfect subwoofer(for me). The two I own at this point are an AA avalanche and SS RL-P. I like and dislike things about both of them. The rl-p is loud, more than enough for me, its accurate in the higher frequencies (50-70hz) and has a thick, kick in the chest type sound. At lower frequencies I do however dislike it. Its just not there and Ive had it in two sealed enclosures, 1.2 cubic ft and 2.3. And one 2 cubic ft tuned to 30 hz. Ive tried it in my house as well with my plate amp. Also on the longer bass notes I feel that it sounds unnatural and kind of rough. The Avalanche is a low end monster but needs the huge box to do it which makes it end up lacking high end majorly. This is no good because I listen to Rock only. Even in the small sealed box it sounds a bit soft and doesnt have the jolt I enjoyed in my rlp and previous subs and Im guessing thats the XBL technology at work. It does however sound pleasant and smooth on the longer notes. For my home theater the avalanche is spectacular in the big sealed box.

So what im going to end up doing is selling the rl-p to a friend and keeping the ava in my car until I find something I like and then put it in my HT.

Id like to know whats out there that is perfect for my needs. Of all the boxes Ive built, the small sealed is my favorite. I will build a new one for the new sub though to specs with more bracing and 1.5 thick walls. I want a subwoofer that is very fast and accurate but does not lack too much in low end. Im looking into the IDMAX or OZ ME and possibly an RE SE or FI Q but I have never personally heard these. Any input would be great.

I think if you start with any one of the four you mentioned, you should be well on your way. As you have seen, every driver has its own characteristics. I do not think anyone here would be able to provide you with more info other than 'yeah, product X is great, buy it'.

Perhaps start with a used RE and/or Fi and go from there.

Good luck,

Mark

i like mine

Just put it in a box thats 2 cubes tuned to 32-34 hz and it'll do.

If you want small sealed or small ported. Get the Phoenix Gold Rsdc. It sounds amazing. You can put it in a .4cuft sealed enclosure if you wanted too. Or a .81cuft ported enclosure.

the Dayton HO ten will work in a very small ported enclosure as well. .7 net tuned to 30hz is where they really shine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
