yea funny you mentioned that. the first time i rolled i found the smallest guy there thinking that i (being roughly 200LBS) would atleast be able to more less out strength him even if he DID have skill. he ended up throwing my *** around for an hour straight. he was all of 140LBS. i later found out he was a black belt in both BJJ and kempo i believe.

I have trained for the past few years with several Jiu Jitsu masters, some who have trained with the Gracie family in Brazil. It is a fun sport and a great way of self defense but I would recomend you find a mix-martial arts dojo to train at. There will be a lot of situations where you can not simply get someone in a hold, especially if they are throwing punches. I would recomend you take some boxing and TKD classes first. GL and let me know how it goes

My instructor was mark bocek. Hes actually in the UFC card this coming event. I remember rolling with him and he always made me look stupid ahhaa. Good buy tho, good instructor and wears cologne before he rolls. GSP comes once in a while also //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif, both are unreal in their skill.

The good thing about jiu jitsu is that if even after one year of training you will have established an excellent ground game and can probably handle 99% of all spontaneous street fights that come end up on the ground.

I also took Muay thai for the striking.

You definitely want to do something that will expose you to getting hit frequently. It won't matter how much money you've spent and how many hours of ju-jitsu and self defense class you've taken when you get hit in the face one good time and everything you learned leaves the premise of your brain onto the sidewalk as you're getting your skull beat in.

Something like boxing or MMA should do the trick.

just take boxing classes... it would probably help you most in any real life fight situation... you don't need to know how to leg lock someone in a street fight. all that matters is who can punch who the most times in the face and boxing is the best/cheapest/easiest way to learn that (imo)....

i boxed my junior and senior year in the P.A.L. (police athletic league) after school. they had a gym and ring that was free to use and the station was right down the road from my school.... just training with actual people throwing punches at each other is the best way to learn to defend yourself...
