I think its time for an upgrade.....

I had my system for a couple of months now and i think i just got too used to it...I have an alpine 7893 h/u, jl 500/1 amp, 2 12" type r's in a sealed box....the SQ is excellent but it looks like the bass is playing to fast for these subs and its not hitting quite hard. So i am planning to upgrade but dont wanna take it past 1000watts. Can you guys help me pick out a system that will have a better balance of spl more than sq ( if you guys know how type r's perform i will need a lot more SPL) - iwas thinking :

Rockford 851s amp w/ 2 12" Ed K's or O's

Phoenix Gold Ocane R 15:1 paired w/ 2 12" L7's

Ever think about putting the subs in a ported box first? If that isnt enough SPL, then look to upgrade.

lots of people here could give you the dimensions. I would suggest building it yourself, 1 its more fun, and 2, its cheaper.

you could build one

tuning is done by giving the port certain dimensions ie length, width, height

but has to be matched up with the woofer your using

dude i wouldnt port Type R's. Theyr SQ subs dont try to force em to get louder, i would be willling to bet they wont sound that good if u ported em. Just my opinion.

you definetly dont want a pre-fab ported box.

You could build a ported box and get 2 12" Ed K's. Then give em like 400 watts each. That be much better than the R's and the SQ would be as good or better.

theres no point in buying the k's now if your going to have to make a ported box eventually anyways. just make a box that will fit both the k's and the r's and if you don't like the how the r's sound ported, then buy the k's. I have heard the type r's ported and I liked them.

doesnt hurt to try to port the R's, i just doubt it will soung good. Where as K's need roughly the same amount of room as R's do. So u could a box now and try em both out .
