I think i may need a new box..

The box has absolutely no effect on the coils. If the coils smell you are sending too much power to the sub, regardless of the enclosure. Try setting your gains with a DMM. The only other thing I can think of is if the subs new you might just be smelling the excess glue being burned off, but that shouldn't last for more than a few quick play sessions.
So if my box is tuned to 45hz, and im playing 30hz tones all day and start smelling something, its not the coils that stink?

Funny thing is, that is not due to the box...

It's due to the overpowering of the sub. Playing a 30hz tone in a box tuned at 45hz would require a hell of a lot less power to reach mechanical failure...

So it is the power burning the coil. A box can not burn a coil.

But I understand your point. A box can lead you to burn your coils with power...

Not true at all.

If someone is running the sub way below tuning and running into coil stink they are an idiot because they probably bottomed the thing out and screwed the suspension long before it started to smell. If you coil smells you ran out of thermal power handling. Other than playing notes near tuning, which lowers the airflow around the coil you can't really effect thermal power handing that much. At least not on music where the impedence rise of the box wont' come into play. If the coils smell you sending the sub too much power. Unless your playing right at music that is all right at tuning where nothings moving you can switch boxes all day and only effect mechanical power handling.

I Have A Type-r Dual 2 Swr-1221d And I Have A 1 Cu. Ft. Sealed Enclosure In My Pickup And It Sounds Good I Dont Smell Anything Burning But It Does Shut Off When I Play It Too Loud, I Dont Kno What It Could Be
