I really need help

The Rca wires keep shorting out while white smoke pours out of my hood. Could the power wire also be shorting/melting. Also the amp it self makes a whining noise. However before the wires short the subs do work however I can’t turn the gain up past 1/4 of the way. Then after several minutes of use the wires begin to short again. Is this the amp.

PS. I have a 4 channel amp split off my other power line that is working fine.

try disconnecting your negative batter terminal and starting over very carefully, or some fuses are bad or in the wrong place I think.not an expert but if something is frying and shorting out, my guess is that you have something connected backwards, try disconnecting your negative batter terminal and starting over very carefully, or some fuses are bad or in the wrong place I think.

my four channel amp works fine....and a professional ran the power wire for both they split off of each other. Could the power wire still deliver enough power to the four channel amp but when the sub amp kicks in create it to start shorting again demanding more power. Please don't leave me hanging It's been hard getting answers for this people haven't been answering me.

Try re-reading your post and start over very carefully.

how is there smoke under your hood if its from the RCAs? I don't know anyone that runs RCAs up front unless you have an amp in your engine bay. Sounds like it must be a power/ground problem. Check both and disconnect. Also make sure you ground is on a good spot or open metal and securely fastened.

thanks again for those who have answered its taken about 4 fourm boards 2 on this one to get any but tonight this is what im doing.

I just totatly uplugged my power wire....it has heated up and melted some plastic around it. I’m going to purchase a new wire do a cob job run from the battery to the trunk on the out side just to test the voltages tonight. So this way with a new wire I can test the voltages and ohms and what not the amp is putting out. Any other things to test for while i got the volt meter out?

im not familiar with rca wires shorting out. but the smoke could be your power wire arching on ground somewhere. i've seen it melt steel so watch out on that shit, check your old power wire when you take it out to see where it was grounding out and figure out why it did so before anything else.

well i have the new wires...tomorrow in auto tech im going to run the power wire just from the hood to the trunk on the out side to see if it shorts and if the amp is working properly
