Try to learn the ropes on installing as that will save you good amount of dollars.
You should be able to get some nice stuff for that budget.
Mine is pretty budget right now and a lot of it is new stuff.
Alot is from the classifieds and used as well, but still works like a charm.
I have about 1100 in my budget system so far, although waiting on some stuff to show up still, so not sure how it sounds yet.
I also need an extra battery, but that will have to wait.
So check out the classifieds section here and see what you can snatch up. Most people are decent here. Ask for refs, pics with name on a piece of paper and such.

Those are the 3 sites I ususally get my new stuff from.
Componets, check into the newer line of Pioneer Premier TSD-720c's 6 3/4" componet set. Can be had for 100 smacks, but usually around 130 something. There are a couple people selling them in the classifieds right now for 100. I have these and are fantastic! Also don't worry as your ride might not call for it, but you can get adaptor rings to help fit them.
As far as subs, amps and what not. Let us know more about your listening taste. Do you perfer SQ, SQL, SPL?
