Did you buy a kicker comp 15 or comp vr? You said a 500 watt sub, is that RMS(continuous) or peak? If you have a 500 watt peak sub then the JBL600.1 will be too much. If you have a comp vr 15'' they handle 500 RMS and 1000 peak and that JBL 600.1 would be just perfect.

alright here is the sub i bought. Kicker Comp 01C154, it got good reviews at soundomain. heres are the stats Recommended RMS Power: 250W

I think u shoudl eat about 6 cans of beans and then go sit on toliet and fart out ur butt!!!LOL, anyways, I recommend the JBL BP300.1 for that sub. It'll give it a lil more than the RMS but it should be ok as long as you arent a volume freak and cause distortion. I think you can pick up that 300 watt jbl amp for about 150 or less on http://www.ikesound.com I know the 600 is only 205 so I would think the 300 would be about 150 or so.

so i should pick up the JBL BP300.1? would it ruin my sub or make it less sufficent if i got theJBL BP600.1?
