I need help with a Head unit problem

I was going to install my head unit (Pioneer deh-6500)tonight in my 99 ***** am and I am having problems. I cut the connector off of the stock harness and connected the power wire to the power on my head unit, and the ground to the ground on my head unit and it will not turn on. I put a meter on it and the power wire is putting out power and the ground is good, but the head unit will not turn on. If anyone can help me out, please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks, Matt
