I need some help, or information. How essential are SEALED speaker boxes on large handling subs (ei 1600 watt)? Do you have to have multi- channeled amps so you can hook more than one speaker up to it? What are / is ohms? What are crossovers? I am sure this question has alot to do with opinion, but what brands produce the highest quality sound, and perfromance? Thanks everyone, Help me out.

I can only answer a few of the questions but i will do my best. Now anyone correct me if im wrong.

"Do you have to have multi- channeled amps so you can hook more than one speaker up to it? "

No. You can use a mono sub( one channle) and bridge it into 2 channels. The deal with that is you will not have a "left" and "right". The amp will see both subs as one so they will both be hitting the same beats as where a 2 channel amp would be able to have a "left" and a "right" independently.

"What are crossovers? "

bassicly a crossover is a deivce that distinguishs the diffrences in the highs, mids, and lows and sends them the to appropriate speaker and or sub. Like it will send the lows to your subs so the subs arnt trying to produce some super high tone they cant handle which will distort your imageing. Then it will send the highs to your tweeters and so on.

"what brands produce the highest quality sound, and perfromance? "

THat is deffinatly a matter of opinion and it also depends on what your looking for, subs, amps, speakers. Rockford fosgate and kicker are pretty much the top of the line when it comes to amps btu they are rahter expensive. Infinity and orion or pretty good for speakers and then sybs....theres so many brands that are good.

Hope i helped a little bit. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Let's see what's left.

Sealed boxes aren't really essential for high powered subs. A sealed enclosure usually will allow a little more power handling though. But you don't have to use sealed enclosures for high power applications.

The ohm is the unit of measure of a device's opposition to the flow of current. One ohm of resistance will allow only one amp of current to flow through a circuit when one volt of electrical force is applied to the circuit. Hope that helps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

One more thing that eddie failed to mention. (not knockin ya eddie) With subs you do not really want them to have a stereo separation so it is suggested even if you do have a two channel amp for subs you want to bridge it so you get a mono signal. Keeping the stereo separation has no advantages in this type of application and can even go so far as to create a noise cancelation on each other.

The Kappa's have a high sensitivity rating of 93 db so the X802-5 would be fine. A good high sensitivity 8" sub in a properly sized box would fit...
