I need a radar detector .. Escort/passpot 9500 ix, Or Valentine 1 .?

I have the 8500 x50 and have a lot of experience with the Valentine V1 and both are good units. The V1 has a better range but the 8500 has been great for me. I haven't used the 9500 yet but it does have GPS that will keep track of false alarms. From what I have read that seems to be the only big advantage between the V1 and the 9500 or any of the newer units. So you will have much less false alarms with the 9500 over the V1.
Like said above, if the cops in your area are using laser the detector won't help at all. However, in the three years I have had my detector I only had one cop actually using a laser so that may not be a big deal. It has definitely payed for itself many times over so it is worth the money.
a laser gun already has your speed before human reaction time can even kick in.

I use the Blinder Extreme M47 for laser...has saved my *** twice already regarding laser...completely blinds the laser gun and they can't get a reading...have a cheap Whistler on the windshield for now to cover radar...if and when I get pulled over, if the cop is a butthead and looks at my history and it comes up bupkus, but gives me a ticket anyways, I fight it...have beat all tickets issued since 1989...pretty easy to do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Enough of my soapbox tho...I have done a lot of research and if and when I want to pay the cash, I'd go with Escort or Beltronics...can't go wrong.

if they are using instant on with k or Ka band you're done.

ive noticed in the past year or so more DFW area police are using instant on.

Used to be that you could drive and a cop would just leave his radar on, then you would have a mile or so warning, but now they are using instant and you really dont have a chance

Im using a 8500 x50
