I need a better subwoofer, help!

I need to make a better sealed sub box. I hear to much box noise from my current sealed box. (the sealed box is a center console in my minivan.)

Since i sometimes push my Dayton Audio 10" Ultimax to it limit, and since im building a new box, it seems like a good time to get a new 10" sub that can handle the my max volume a little easier than the Ultimax did.

My 10" sub is used from 45Hz to 125hz (my 12" MLTL sub in the back, handles 50hz on down)

I have PPI P1000.1 amp for the 10", and would like to keep the price under $400.

Any suggestions?

PS. I do have a new 10" Image Dynamics IDQ V4 in my garage but im not sure if that would be any better than the Ultimax. (I was thinking the IDMAX might be a better choice but i don't know enough ...) Anyways thanks for any help.

My current consol box is .9 sq feet but I can go as big as i need to. My van is a work van so no seats in the back.

goal is just good mid bass and not to have to replace a sub again. On my second Ultimax.

0.9 is on the larger side for the IDQ. I would personally run that before you spend more money on something you potentially don't need. A large percent of the time, the enclosure will fix your concerns about a sub stage.

I take that back, I was thinking of a different sub. 0.9 (assuming that's after displacement) is right about where you'd want to be sealed on the IDQ. You can go up to a 1.6 cube sealed according to the spec sheet, but shouldn't need that much based on the power you have to provide to it.

Finally, if you're not after going ported, you may want to look at a bass reflex enclosure (think passive radiators). It still lets your enclosure size stay relatively small, but will allow for a little more output which might satisfy your ears a bit more. Neither of the subs you have right now are bad and I loved my ID10 when I ran it, but they need a good enclosure to wow you.

I looked at the reflex box but i have never heard one. I like the sound of the sealed box just this box was not made strong enough.

Then I'd recommend a rebuild. Sealed shouldn't cost you much at all to rebuild anyway, especially if you have a little shop experience.

Bass reflex = ported //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

PR's are just one way to port.

Shush. Take your PRs and shove 'em where the sun don't shine, you SQL monster //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

I referenced the PRs based on potential size limitations over standard ported, but you never know...
