I made a mistake... suggestions??

I bought a new 2008 Tundra that came with the JBL system (that sounded terrible). So I ripped everything out and started fresh. The truck came with 2 sets of components and I replaced them with 2 sets. I also replaced HU, etc.

A local shop talked me into Kicker's SS series (their highest line) but I hate them. I just sold one set and I am hoping to sell the other. Now I need to replace them. I have read for hours on CA and I see that Image Dynamics CTX65CS and Hertz HSK 165 are pretty popular. I am also looking into Focal. I have 2 questions:

I am running an Orion HP4800 4 channel amp with 100w x 4 (see sig)

1) Should I run 2 sets of comps? All 4 door panels have a separate tweeter placement area.

2) Do I have enough power (100w x 4) to run the listed choices?

Budget is $500. So I could spend $250 or so for each set or spend $400 on front stage and $100 on rear fill......????

I am really bummed I let my local shop talk me into those kicker comps because they don't match my listening pleasure. I guess this is part of the fun of installing your own equipment!

i'd say go with 400$ on front stage and 100$ max on rear fill..

as for components on rear fill RSD's will be more than decent..im not educated enough to give any suggestions on 400$ spears though.

Any of the higher end Rainbow/Hertz/Image Dynamics/etc. will work well for you. Once you get into high dollar speakers, all of them are nice, it just depends what type of sound you are looking for.

And I'd say if you don't care about people in the back hearing the music, spend all your cash on your front stage.

Get a nice set of components to stick up front. There are too many to name. Bridge your amplifier to your fronts, and set the gains where you're comfortable (chances are, your orion will make too much power bridged for them, so you'll have to be conservative with the gains)

Also, deaden the crap out of your front doors. It will make your speakers sound much fuller.

For rears, get a set of coaxials or low-end components and just run them off the deck. I personally keep my rears turned off unless I have passengers. In a Tundra, fronts alone should be more than sufficient.

skip the rear fill unless you need it for other passengers some sound deadening for the front doors could be a good idea and then a nice sent of fronts u could run a nice active set up too

I dont think I want to afford Hertz MLK at msrp $999. Does anyone know where to get the MLK for a better price?

I like the idea of running a set of components active with my 4 channel amp. Wont a 100w be a lot for tweeters?

The deck can easily power some low end coax in the rear. I am tall so I actually like rear fill cuz I lean my seat back so I am actually closer to the rear tweeters than the front!

If I go active I will run my amp like this: Channels 1 and 3 to the tweeters and Channels 2 and 4 to 6.5's?

Usually you would pair the tweeters together on channels 1 &2, so the gain adjustment on the input section controls them both together.

Then channels 3 & 4 for the woofer. It depends on how your amp is set up, but I think that's how most of them are paired on the amplifiers.

100 watts if fine for the tweets, you will probably have the gain for the tweets turned all the way down and the gain for the woofers turned almost all the way up.

Check over at http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/index.php for what componets those guys suggest for running active. More of them run active than here, so they can tell you what's a popular choice right now. Make sure you do a good job deadening and installing them. It will be worth it.

Yes, you can run the rears off the HU, but once you hear good sound from the front, you will want the rears off most of the time. Focus your efforts and money on the front stage.

Go for the TS-C720PRS and run them active with a Memphis 16-XO3. Your 4x65wrms amp will be plenty. No need for rear fill right now. Slap some coaxs back there if you feel it's needed after getting the front and sub stages tuned/blended.

I ordered the Hertz MLK. I have read a lot on this forum site (and others) and for the money it seems like the MLK's are awesome SQ. I already have Raamat and I will deaden the doors the best I can. I will take photos of the install as soon as I get the comps and start the build. Oh Boy....new toys in the mail!
